I'm looking for a quaint New England Town to buy a 2nd home now, that would in time be our main home. I miss having sidewalks and walking arounf a town/village. Throw in some Mountains and a lake and I'll be in Heaven,
I love Meredith NH, but need something a bit more alive ... Any suggestions... I am also trying to find out if NH is better thant VT or ME with regards to taxes and general living expenses ... I hear Maine is a killer on tax .. but NH real estate tax is high .... Thanks for youe advice in advance ... |

I guess that would depend on what you mean by quaint. A lot of the smaller towns in NH won't have all the stuff to do. Wolfeboro is a quaint town, lake, mountains, history. I don't know that taxes are. In the summer there is a lot but the winter in New England is winter. Unless you ski, snowmobile, ice fish that kind of stuff.

Yes property taxes are high in NH since the Claremont court ruling, but all-round, it isn't even a contest. Maine and Vermont are WAY more expensive. The only way I could see this even being a half-way competitive contest is if you are a retiree. |

Jackson, NH maybe. You are right by the best skiing and the resorts in North Conway and the outlets and some nightlife.

Fewer towns in New England are as idyllic as those found around Lake Winnipesaukee; granting an "On Golden Pond" lifestyle. (Though the Lakes Region's Squam Lake is the supposed setting for Mr. Thompson's play.)
In assisting your decision, you can peruse LakesRegionRelocation-dot-com, and, dependent on your lifestyle needs, my company, Estate Club, grants the time and freedom to make those life-long memories be delivering distinctive property-and-lifestyle valet services. In fact, we have just become the sole regional provider of Marquis Jets - provider of Warren Buffet's NetJets fleet. In addition, we can provide 'white-glove' maid service, property maintenance & manicuring, private chefs, exotic auto rental, wine cellar 'instant' collections... whatever is needed to ensure one has that time and freedom to choose how one wishes to spend the currency of time. Obviously, the vast majority of individuals would not require such attendance, but in the event you are one of those individuals -- or another reading this forum has an interest -- I invite you to inquire for a more comprehensive presentation. I hope you find that perfect NH town to fit your own perfect lifestyle. |

Meridith seemed like a really quaint place (we were there on Fourth of July). I mean, it's so sweet to see locals holding a chicken barbecue to raise money. How much more small town can you get?
It's also near the lake and very pretty, yet there seemed to be shopping and a decent restaurant (that turkey place..yummy). |

Upon further research, I can see that Jackson NH looks like my cup of tea!
