Looking for the perfect neighborhood near Portsmouth (Exeter, Stratham: home, neighborhoods)

Hi, we are considering a move to the Portsmouth area. We currently live in New England, so we're not strangers to the area. We are hoping to find a sizable neighborhood where the residents are exceedingly friendly & social. We are hoping to find a nice home in the $500K-$600K range. I was wondering if anyone could recommend neighboring towns (even better, specific neighborhoods) which might meet these criteria? I've heard Greenland, Exeter, Stratham? Your help is so appreciated!
