Here in the hills of central NH, we awoke to an icy/freezing rain mess. Everything is slippery and coated with ice. Now that the sun is out, it looks quite beautiful. Doesn't look like it will last long now that it's warming up a bit.

Just a glimpse of what to come in the days and weeks ahead perhaps.

Until we exit the negative phase of the Pacific North American pattern, I expect to see a repeat of what has been happening in the eastern US. This means, mostly mild weather, wet period, and fleeting shots of colder air. The La Nina pattern in the Pacific for this winter also brings more uncertainty to how the overall pattern will setup over the eastern US. A shift to a more netural PNA would give New England more opportunities for snow to go along with a blocking pattern in the North Atlantic. The 7-14 day period looks a bit more favorable for snow chances if you believe the computer models today. However, it is a bit far out to get too excited yet. I do have a meteorology background so if you have any other questions just ask
