Exeter is great community. Very family oriented. Lots of cool independently owned shop and restaurants. Walkable main street with historical architecture everywhere. The downside is that if you are buying a house, property taxes are pretty high. I don't know much about the local government and how it's run, but if it weren't for the high property taxes, Exeter would be on the top of our list for relocation. Loved it when we were there this summer.

My thoughts are it is a very nice community with excellent schools and high taxes.

I think Exeter is overrated. I grew up in the Portsmouth area, and never saw what was so nice about Exeter. Sure, it got a quaint little downtown with some cool little shops, but the property is overvalued and the mil rate is also very high. See NHArtphotog's posts about it. You can get the quaint feel for a lot less in other places. The only reason I can think of for it being so expensive is it's easy access and proximity to Boston. Exeter ain't nothin special for me...
