Road Rage Involved Gun
21 year old Trevor Hartness spent the night in jail after flashing a 9MM at another driver in an incident of road rage. The other driver called 911 and Hartness was arrested.
His attorney, Pamela Dean, likened this case to the Ward Bird case. She claims he felt threatened so there was a need to pull his weapon.
Hartness was released on a $2500 bond.
IMO, this guy won't get the 3 years mandatory sentence, and WILL take the plea deal offered. At least he should take a plea deal...and not go the way of Bird.
a better reaction would have been to pull over and report the erratic driving if he felt there was a problem. Call in the license and report the driver, don't pull a gun unless you intend to use it. Flashing a gun IS criminal threatening..... People like Hartness don't deserve a license to carry.

What ever happened to the good old days when you just pulled off to the side of the road and kicked his azz.

^ obviously, he is not a man without his gun lol....it's a substitute for another body part.
interesting statistic:
16, New Hampshire
Population: 1,324,575
NICS background checks per 100,000 residents: 14,522
33, Texas
Population: 24,782,302
NICS background checks per 100,000 residents: 9,936
there are more guns per 100,000 people in NH than TX. But since TX has a much larger population, the total amount of guns in TX is much higher than NH.
States with the most guns - The Daily Beast
keep in mind these numbers only indicate gun sales - guns in NH are not registered.
The only point about the numbers indicated above, is NH is #16 out of 50 for having the most guns per population.

Buck, there is no registration of any type for guns in NH. Not sure where you're trying to go with your numbers.
Couple of things. The driver should have never let it go that far. If he felt afraid, he should have been the one to call 911.
Penny Dean is a strong supporter of gun rights in NH but she is often an over-the-top flake.

absolutely right NHForester - I will correct the post to indicate SOLD guns (through a dealer). Although there is no registration required, there are federal forms, fees, etc. when purchasing items like “Machine guns” (full-auto or select-fire guns, including burst-mode capable guns), sound suppressors (“silencers”), short-barreled rifles (barrels under 16 inches) and shotguns (under 18 inches), handguns with shoulder stocks.

Oh goody, another one. I don't at all see how you can feel that your life is in immediate danger while your traveling down the road, and if your carrying a gun you had better try extra hard to keep out of situations like this. Self defense won't fly if you had a part in instigating the encounter.

Just yesterday, during the heaviest part of the snow, I was driving 30 mph in a 40 zone. It was downhill, slippery as all hell, and the road was curving left and right. A truck zooms up behind me, tailgating within two feet, then passes me illegally while flipping me the bird.
Jacka**, yes. Did I feel my life was in danger? Yes! If I had had a gun with me, would I have considered flashing it? No. I'm not a lunatic. I just yelled at my steering wheel like a normal person.

This is not a Ward Bird case at all.
Ward Bird was on his on property and the women who called the police in that incident was trespassing.
Trevor Hartness is just a punk kid waving his gun around on a public road.

the road to Bird's house is not private property. It is community property shared by 1/2 dozen other residents. Yes, his driveway is private property. However greeting guests with a loaded gun is not the normal NH way to treat visitors. She was lost. She merely wanted directions. Bird acted like a lunatic because he didn't want anyone purchasing the property next to him. He behaved exactly the same as the kid in this case.
Wondering why Hartness did not last long in the Marines?

That same thing happened to me in Pennsylvania. Sorry, but I am not going to drive unsafely during a winter storm. This was a middle-aged woman who flipped me off too...
Like you, I was upset and thought to myself "What a jerk" but I would never resort to violence.
But I am seeing more aggressive actions these days, even in supposedly laid back western PA.
