Well I agree with that idea.

I am not sayin' the cop should not have written the guy up, but that he had a choice to write the guy up and under the circumstances it might have been one time for looking the other way, or a verbal warning, even a reduction of the stated MPH, for a reduced fine amount, all of which have been given to me with out asking, as well as the full blown whole ticket.

I have had all of these things happen to me in the past.

It's good we don't self bust, since it is getting really hard to now break some law on a day to day basis for most people.

These days with laws as they are, maybe you could get busted for looking cross eyed at a snow flea in the drive way. I think by law in NH the use of a drivers door on a car parked in a street is a infraction. I believe the law states 'we' should enter on the passanger side when parked that way.

I know dammed well both hands should be on the steering wheel except if you have a stick shift and are in the act of shifting. Who does that?

Driving the 1 ton truck I get to look down and see people driving with their bloomin knees on the interstate passing ME

One hand on a cell phone the other texting on a lap top!

After calling in the pursuit and the failure to stop, then the escort?? Not really. he would be open to all sorts of discipline. Easier to just let the judge deal with it. The father is lucky he made it alive.

Dave - it he hits a bus full of nuns at three in the AM - All I want to know is what convent they are from.

Smart people don't need speed limits. Europe doesn't have speed limits and Europe is just fine so don't let no cop tell me I can't rush my wife to the hospital at 4AM if I need to. I will tear up the damm ticket next time that happens to me ....LIVE FREE OR DIE!

Looks like John Coughlin will get his day in court. He was given a trial date of April 4.

Europe does have speed limits. Each individual country has their own. Even the autobahn has an advisory speed limit of 80 mph, though you are not ticketed if you go over the limit.

Live Free or Die does not mean "Live free even at the risk of killing others". The 911 transcript of the call has Coughlin saying "I'm being pulled over by a cop, but my wife's in labor. Her water just broke." News Flash: Deliveries take a long time! The average labor takes up to eight hours. He could have driven the speed limit and gotten his wife their safely.

He also failed to appear in court, which is another blow IMO. This guy is not very smart.

i guess it is time for my 2cents as i started this thread.here it is:
1 to those of you who say speeding was ok because they made it there alive so we should not talk about the "what ifs", - the baby was delivered ok, therefore there was no need for speed.
2. the autobahn does have normal speed limits in some areas
3. no one is exempt from the laws of physics.
4. while i hope the father gets a minimum punishment, letting him off with nothing would probably encourage the next person with an emergency to severely exceed the speed limit and they might not be as lucky.
5 i hope this discussion and all the others around the country on this subject will make people think about if there is a better way to handle the situation.

I wonder how that will work out. The last ticket i fought in NH the fine was increased. The so-called judge's mind was made up before the court opened.

What happened was a statie dropped on my tail and tailgated to put his brights on. Like a fool I passed the car ahead of me. Bingo, busted for speeding.

Atleast I was a teen then, and learned that lesson. Now when that happens I just pull off the road and let whom ever slide on by.

And No, deliveries can happen very rapidy. My son was almost born in a wheel chair, infact his head was out in the wheelchair, while some blue hair bitty was waggin papers in my now x wifes face.

My now x was funny as i saw it, tearing the papers from the bitty's hand and throwing them up in the air. My now x wife's water broke and with in 12 minutes i had her at the hospital, and in a few seconds more my son was making his first formal complaints about the cold harsh world. I was pretty well relieved of any of what had been planned.

I didn't have to hold my wifes hand or poof and breath, telling her to not push or anything. With-in the half hour i was found in a local bar having a cold frosty beer, appreicating the calm peace and quiet.

I found it was rather stressful all that 12 minutes of yelling and mess...... Another good point is i didn't need to haul any water or even start a fire.
