Hanover
Has anyone ever lived in or around Hanover? I am asking about this one because it came up twice in my "find your spot" quiz. I went to find your spot dot com and Hanover NH was a pick for me. I am very interested in this place because the crime rate seems to be virtually non existent...I don't know if that leaves the town residents very accepting of new comers, but still. I'd like to know ALL info and experiences you have about the town. Thanks!

Hanover is a nice small college town, home to Dartmouth College. It is in an area known as the Upper Valley. Lots of nice restaurants & shops. Norwich, VT, just across the CT river is very nice as is Thetford, VT. In NH, besides Hanover, Lyme is nice. The major employers in the area are Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, just down the road in Lebanon. The Hanover Co-op is a great grocery store. One is right in Hanover, the other by the hospital.

A+ college town. Dominated by Dartmouth College. More nightlife than in most other places in New Hampshire. Downtown area about two long blocks with businesses catering to the college crowd - i. e. college bookstore, local book store, stationery store, movie theater (a rarity in New Hampshire). Dartmouth has an art museum - Hood Museum of Art? - open to the public with regular exhibits. Not as "quaint" as most other towns in New Hampshire, with more brick buildings. By the way, Dartmouth College is what the John Belushi movie Animal House was based on.

Sevdie:
I am moving to East Thetford, VT shortly, which is right across the river from Hanover, NH. I'm hoping to have the best of both (NH/VT) worlds. I have a friend who lived in Hanover for years and loved it. Most people you'd meet work at the college (a very close community) or the medical center. For a fairly small area, it seems to have a lot. There are many activities and places to go associated with the college, theater, arts, classes, shopping, organizations, etc. And of course VT is close with all it has to offer, especially if you love the outdoors.
I posted a reply to your other thread about towns in NH. I spent a lot of time researching places to live and used findmyspot.com. Hanover came up in my results too, the only drawback being the long(er)/colder winters. I lived for awhile in Seattle and liked the weather because it was so moderate, so I tolerate the winters in NH but wish I could have it otherwise.
Where are you currently living?

I am currently living in Lawrence Kansas. I am a Native New Yorker, so it was a big change for me. Hanover sounds great based on the info I am getting from find your spot and this forum. I did read your reply to the other thread and sent you a PM. You all are so helpful with my search. This forum is great. I think what attracts me most to Hanover is it's low crime rate. It seems to be the lowest of all the cities I've researched so far.

Hanover
My daughter attends Dartmouth and we love the town. So much to offer for such a small place. But we don't live there so I couldn't really tell you what everyday life is like. Few restaurants we have been to were great. We were there a few weeks ago and the leaves we changing....... beautiful.
On the other side my daughter thinks it is quite boring.... could be she is from a suburb of a large Metro area and also she is so young and thinks any small place is a bore.
One thing I don't like is that it's not easy to get to as far as airport access. We fly into Boston but Manchester, NH and Burlington, Vt are much closer.
You live in Lawrence, KS. That is suppose to be a nice college town

Thanks for yur input on Hanover. I am looking for cold snowy winters and mild summers. I am looking for a town that is on the east coast (I am a Natuve New Yorker) and Lawrence does not fit that description at all. I am miserable in Lawrence, ks and really need to get back to the east coast.

Also in the year 2000 New Hampshire had 1.8 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the state as having the 44th highest rate for Murder. New Hampshire’s 42.2 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 9th highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, New Hampshire’s rate was 36.7 which ranked the state as having the 42nd highest for Robbery. The state also had 94.7 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 47th highest position for this crime among the states. For every 100,000 people there were 404.0 Burglaries, which ranks New Hampshire as having the 48th highest standing among the states.
