Conservatives in Russia want to bring back Stalinist style communism - the extreme of socialism. Conservatives in Britain want to reform universal healthcare. Conservatives in Iran want Jihad against America and the West. Conservatives in West Texas wanted Jerry Falwell for President and God as his chief advisor.
So? And some Liberals want to legalize all drugs and open the borders. What's your point?

I didn't know that throwing out broad generalizations was part of being LIBERAL and open-minded.

My point was that there are many that identify with conservatism just as you do, but it is not a single set of political views. You respond to my illustration by rounding on me as an extreme liberal (or a fascist...??!?!!?) - because in your view there are only two positions: one at each extreme. There can be no middle ground, no democrats who support immigration reform, a strong military and fiscal responsibility, and no republicans who can write a welfare check, reject an outdated tradition, or keep his finger off the "Invade" button. Why not?

The consensus for most people, at least on these forums, is that there are polarized groups, but in reality that is not the case. Most people you will find to be centrists. Now if you spend any time on politcal blogs and the like, it would seem to be a world full of hard Lefts and Rights. No true. Most "regular" folk will find common ground somewhere.

Myself, I concider myself a Conservative but I believe in renewable energy and recycling. I have been wrongly pigeoned-holed in conversations by people as an "enviro-nut". But I would probably agree with them on immigration or government handouts.

I believe the centrist vote will determine the next president. The guy who falls into that category is McCain. After yesterday, he certainly has a commanding lead. He appeals to both sides. I don't like him, but given the choice against either of the other two, I will lean his way.

Um, no.

I was sarcastically responding to your ridiculous blanket statements about conservatives by tossing out an equally blanket statement about liberals.

I respect other people's political views, especially when they can communicate original or well-thought points. However, if it bothers you to be assumed an extreme liberal, perhaps you should refrain from posting statements like your original one.

Seabrook, if you like the coast. It has the mildest weather (temperature wise) in NH, and has the lowest overall tax burden of any coastal town in the US. Even the property taxes are $13.09 per thousand--modest by New England standards.

Seabrook also has a very low crime rate, and there are some very nice neighborhoods there.

And a nuclear power station.... hence the low tax.

Not a Blanket Statement: Conservatives can be communists, socialists (on a U.S. scale), Jihadists, or God-fearing farmers. (i.e. conservatism means different things to different people, so OP and responders might want to be more specific than "lots of conservatives in town X" when what I suspect they meant was that "Town x is Republican").

Now sure, I cite extreme examples, and possibly the DEFAULT view of conservatism is that of those who call themselves Reaganites - but you could ask for clarification before tossing out a flame or two.

rmcewan, in America conservatives identify with Ronald Reagan and consider him one of the greatest leaders we ever had. Why you would keep up this double speak as trying to put a spin on and on what a conservative is in America is absurd, as your answers remind me of what Bill Clinton answered when he was testifying before the Grand Jury. He said, "It Depends what is is" You truly appear to be a well schooled student of the Clinton jargon!

What double speak? Why are you so aggressive? Are you reading what I write? You react as if I insulted Reagan in some way... but forget that. Who is spinning what conservatives are in America? Show me my spin. Demonstrate the slight. Or find a political forum for your anger.

rmcewan, no need to be so defensive towards sciamedia, as I read it as just a mere observation on sciamedia's part on how you regard American Conservatives. His post did not at all appear to be one of anger either.

As I see it you were paralleling American Conservatives with Stalinist Style of Communism and then you took it upon yourself to say Conservatives in West Texas wanted Jerry Falwell for President with God as his chief adviser. I felt it was kinda condescending on your part and I too agree with sciamedia that your tone does resemble Bill Clinton's "doublespeak". It is good to know others understand what doublespeak is.
