Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, and recently moved with my boyfriend to New Hampshire from California. We are absolutely in love with our house, neighbors, and of course the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounds us. But, we are having a difficult time meeting new people because we are a bit shy. Our interests are varied; we love the outdoors, eating fresh, local food, watching educational documentaries (like Food, Inc.), and just lounging around! We are in our mid to late twenties, without children, and are looking for people who share similar interests as us. We moved to the seacoast about a month ago, and are looking for people in that area. Does anyone have any suggestions for shy people meeting new people? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Try Meetup dot Com...there are some good groups/folks available. Likewise becoming a "regular" somewhere you like always helps...

Thanks for the advice, BF66389. We like going to The Stone Church here in town, and Crackskulls. I guess it is just hard for us to initiate conversation with people...

I guess just sometimes try to blurt things out and try to smile at people. If you see somebody that looks kindly and your "type" try and make a little compliment about their clothing or something. I find coffee shops are great places to strike up conversations because you will see the same people over and over again. It is hard, but, a little smile and eye contact goes a long way

some people meet a lot of new friends through church & church functions. You might also consider volunteering, you get to meet the other people there as well as do something good. Check out volunteernh.org to see if there's something that strikes a chord with you.

Try joining your local Sportsman's club. You'll meet lots of new friends.

Are you into sports?
When my husband and I joined the YMCA co-ed softball team in Charleston, SC we immediately made an insane amount of friends. He also joined a men's baseball league here and I swear the boy is a social butterfly.
Now we're moving to Portsmouth in May and he has already started contacting men's baseball leagues.
It works!! YMCA's usually have kickball leagues, and other sports too.

Try Seabrook. Some of the nicest, most outgoing, hospitable people anywhere are here. It's one of those places where you can just start talking to a complete stranger and they're just like long time friends. It's a small town where people know each other.

For get-togethers and meeting people, I would recommend places like Stacy Jane's. For volunteering, Blue Ocean Society is a great group of people.

Or just stop on by any time. We'll set up a chili cook off something.
