Relocating to NH, looking for affordable places to rent (Manchester: apartments, for rent)

I'm planning on relocating from Kansas to New Hampshire in about a year. I'd like to live in or around Manchester and I'd like to narrow my search down to particular neighborhoods.

I don't have children, so school districts aren't a factor. It's just me, my boyfriend and our dog (under 25 lbs).

So here's what I'm looking for:

1. Cheap rent (or at least affordable). I don't know how realistic this is, but I don't want to exceed $600 a month (just rent, not taking into consideration utilities) if at all possible.

2. Need at least a 1 bedroom. We're looking for trailers, apartments, small houses, whatever. We'll take what we can get.

3. I don't know if there are any 'rough' areas in or around Manchester, but I would assume there are. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid any really scary areas.

4. Being close to grocery stores, parks, restaurants is a plus, but not a must.

I would appreciate any input or advice anyone has to offer!

It's going to be extremely hard looking for rent at that price anywhere in the Northeast. I'd say Manchester would have the cheapest rent though.

You could find something in the Lakes Region for that price...not typical, but it's possible.
