Hi There,

Still trying to get a feel for the state here and appreciate the help I've gotten from this board.

Just have another question. I am going to be looking for some place permanent while in NH and thought the area around Lake Winni looks great.

What is the nicest town on the lake though? Wolfeboro?

I would like to have a town that has stores, restaurants, cafes, etc. and is quaint and nice to walk through. Good police/fire/service.

Value your opinions!

Wolfeboro and Laconia are both very nice. I think you just have to visit both and spend a couple days around the area.

Look @ Meredith. Low property taxes, good schools, nice downtown. Close to the big-box stores when you need then & medical in Laconia. Wolfboro really is too remote for what you are looking for.

Meredith- nicest Lake Winnipesaukee town IMO.
Moultonboro- largest quantity of multi-million dollar estates, but lacks a town center.

I agree with you. Wolfboro can be deader than dead in winter, and a summer long traffic jam thru Fall. That town has all back roads to get in or out.

Merideth is happening all year long and has good interstate access. I consider Laconia to be a city, not a town.

Yup.....Meredith has come a long way in the past 20 years. it used to be very run-down back in the day.

I agree with that too. The re-hab on the Old Mill is a good thing. I like little shops with out the junk Walmart has. I miss the mills too.

I think the last wool mill in NH was in Ashland, but I hope I am wrong and someone tells me off and points out where a last wool mill is in NH, VT, or Maine even.

If you are looking for accurate information about the lakes region I suggest you check out the forum at winnipesaukee.com. Lots of great information and really friendly forum members.

We're moving there after a several years of researching different areas in New England.
