Hi all,

My kids' spring break is late late late this year -- week of April 25. Am thinking we will do a few day trips and maybe throw in an overnight in southern or mid-coast Maine for 1 night.

We've spent quite a bit of time at the Montshire, Odiorne Point in Portsmouth (and Portsmouth in general), the Kittery outlets, Marginal Way, Nubble Light... I am looking for new ideas. Will probably do Marginal Way and Nubble Light again one day because my kids love it so much. Oh -- on MA things...we will save the Freedom Trail for when my husband can come with us, and we are members at the MOS so those are covered.)

My girls are 7 and almost 12 and love outdoors stuff (though mom is not much for hiking in the MUD, so...) We live halfway up I89 and are looking for places up to about 2 hours away.

We're hoping for good weather and I prefer outdoors things but suggestions for indoor stuff is good, too, in case of bad weather. Also would love recommendations for places to eat nearby any outings you suggest. The kids are not picky eaters.

Thanks!

VT....Burlington is a great city. Visit Cabot, Ben and Jerrys, Shelburne Museum. You could hike Camel's Hump.

White Mountains....Lonesome Lake is a great hike to an AMC Hut and beautiful lake. You can ride the tram up Canon MT.....I think they have a zip line down now. They are likely too old for Santa's Village/Storyland.

Squam Lake Science Center

Montreal... a bit more than 2 hours, but not too bad.

Lake George in NY.

Newport RI...mansions. Then you could hit the zoo in Providence if your girls like animals.

I was going to suggest Burlington too. Kids love ECHO. You can stop at the Ben & Jerry's factory on the way or way back. Burlington is about 1.5 hours from Lebanon to give you an idea on driving time.
ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center
I always liked Franconia Notch as a kid. The Basin was a favorite thing to see. As was the Old Man (sad). The New England Ski Museum is interesting.

If you want to do a day hiking trip I would recommend going to Moultonboro. You can do two hikes in a small radius. I would Start out at Red Hill, just west or route 25. Next, I would visit Castle in the Clouds off route 171. Then, I would hike Mt. Shaw (part of Castle in the Clouds complex) just a bit to the east.
Be prepared and have multiple layers due to changeable weather at higher terrain.

Thanks all! Definitely Squam Lake Science Center - I had forgotten I want to go there!

Am dying to go to Castle in the Clouds but my husband would kill me if I went without him

Might take them to Burlington for a day - they loved Shelbourne Farms and Ben and Jerry's when we were there a couple of years ago.

Not sure about the hiking in April -- I love hiking but not in the mud!

What about Charmingfare Farm - is that worth a go?
