Anyone have any bird house designs that are particularly beneficial for southern NH (semi-wooded lot?)

I know I could just make some "generic" bird houses; but perhaps there is a type of bird that would particularly benefit from a house designed for it, etc...

For what bird? As far as I know you learn about the bird type you want to attract and then build a suitable house. Like purple martins like a condo because they live in the fast lane.

Pheebee's just like rafters and build up high.

Barn swallows like barns so ya gotta build a really big barn ;D And provide cats for them to chase.

That's what I'm wondering...what is a neat bird that would benefit from having a house built; I don't know NH birds too well...

There are purple martins, so they would get a condo. There are swallows blue in color that will use a bird house with a fairly small and high entrance. Sparrows will use that same design. Some marsh bird will use a house if it's there....

Recently on the Depot Road in Tamworth a larger house with a larger hle for the opening has been place on the wood line to that field and I have no idea what the bird type for that will be.

What's the deal as bat houses are becoming popular. This a side line for you? I expect so.

Once I made feeders, of paper birch sticks, All I did was use branches from paper birch that were fit for kindling, drilled a 2 inch auger holes, drilled a 1/4" peg hole each and slathered in peanut butter, for a around $3.50 each. Sold like hot cakes.

Grab up a Petersens Bird book, as there are way too many birds to list. People seem to like blue birds, the rarer indigo bunting, cardinals (not sure if they will 'house') I see wrens that like swampy places and are colorful this time of year into summer. These don't seem to care for people neighborhoods much, but stick to swamps.

Maybe the American Red Start will house. Grab a few books made of paper and see what you can did up.

Thanks Mac, very helpful and gives me some starting ideas. I just want to avoid building random "generic" birdhouses if there is something better I could attract...

Sounds like a Wood duck box to me.

Bign' I think so, but to me these seem located a tad high. The field does back up to the Bearcamp River. I was just over there walking last week checking out green chickenlegs (frogs)

I was interested in 2 eskers the glaicers left behind, after I discovered what was there.

Last summer I saw a bear there, and it came after me on my Nomad. It was simply confused, or maybe female
