I am going to be moving from Manchester to the Portsmouth area for a new job starting in a few weeks.
I've been searching for apartment for the last few weeks in Portsmouth, but it doesn't seem like there are many up-to-date decently priced apartments on the market.
I found a nice apartment in Dover, but I've heard alot of warnings about commuting from Dover to Portsmouth via the Rt 16 bridge
How bad is it? How long would it actually take to get from downtown Dover to Portsmouth? It says its about an 11 mile drive, which shouldn't take more than 15 minutes...
All depends on the time of day...going south at morning rush hour and coming north during afternoon/evening rush hour can be hairy. I don't think 15 mins even on a good day...
Only day is REAL bad is Friday afternoons...most of the other days it is decent - from Exit 9 it is about 20 min...from Dover South - 15 minutes but where in Portsmouth are you going to as well? You didn't really give enough specifics, cuz you can truly get there in 5 minutes from some parts to another LOL
Know of a great apt in Portsmouth. Avl Aug
We are giving it up because we bought a house..really great place.
Off street parking
Nice owners
Heat and plowing included
Quiet neighborhood
All good things
I lived in newington and commuted to durham and had to go over the bridge in the AM. its a reverse commute that way. If you are going from portsmouth to dover, it should not be an issue at all.
In other news they will be opening 4 total, or 2 one way lanes on a new bridge so this should alleviate much of the traffic during prime time. You can see the bridge if you drive over Rt 16 right now. It won't be done for a while from the looks of it.
I can remember driving over (albeit with my Father behind the wheel) the original General Sullivan bridge.
