You should have heard it when I moved from NY/NJ to Cape Cod. I actually could not understand the missing "r" thing. I would have to say "pardon me, could you repeat that" more often than not! But then I certainly had a distinct accent as well.

Car=cah

But in NY it's "caw". So, I was the one who had the "funny accent"! At least to them! I still have a good deal of my New Yawka accent, but have picked up on many of the local phrases. If I go back to NY, in five minutes I've got the complete accent back.

believe it or not

the r thing in manchester england is very similar to the r thing in boston or parts of new england

in manchester UK we say things like for order we say orda, manchester is manchesta.


now once you start saying keckle for kettle, bockle for bottle etc or saying ta instead of thanks we'll have a common language again

Well Im a New Zealander and alot of our words are Maori like
We say Kumara and Americans say sweet Potato
and Kawai Americans say Pacific salmon
also all our towns and citys have both English and Maori names.
We Also pronaunce our words diff
Like we say mum m-um and yall say MOM and... we say Cant pronanuced car-nt and yall say c-ant
