Go to Crawford Notch off Rt 302, Pinkham Notch off Rt 16, or Franconia Notch off I93. Treeline is not far away from any of these notches, and you can find spectacular hiking with great views from trails that start at these points. Just be prepared and mindful of weather. Above treeline is an unforgiving place.

Buy one of those "50 Hikes in NH White Mountains" books to get more ideas.

I second Steve's suggestions (especially Franconia Notch) and would add that there are many good hikes off of the Kanc, as well.

Take the Davis Path up Mt. Crawford. The view is spectacular at the summit. Mt. Osceola has a great view, but the trail is very rocky.

I 2nd Zealand, Gale Head, The Lowes Path off Rt 2 up Adams. Webster Jackson Cliff trail out of Crawfords, 19 mile Brook Trail just north and below Wild Cat. Nancy Brook Trail off Rt 302, up an down into the Pemmi. Davis Path just north and on the other side of 302 from Nancy Brook.

Off the Kanc to Sawyer River and to up to Carrigain.

What you need is a AMC White Mt Guide and water proof maps.

Then there is anything off the Kanc, Moats, Tri Pyrimid, Whiteface, My Liberty, Loon, Mt Lafayett, Cannon Mt, Kinsmans Ridge trail. A really easy one with little time spent is Mt Willey right out of Crawfords, on the west side of 302. Good views and a short hike eldery folks can do. A young guy can blow that off in an hour with time to take in the view.

Some people like to do all the 4000 footers in NH

White Mountain 4000-Footers

If you do them all, let me know and I will place a blue star on your forehead
