right.. but they sure can tell what the weather is now, and yesterday, and the day the before. And last week, and last year, and last decade, and last century. And before long we have a trend indicating a warmer future climate. And who cares WHY it's happening. What we need to care about is what we're going to do IF it happens.
It beats me how fact-light news of a $300Bln risk to sub-prime loan companies translates into global panic and trillions get wiped off the global stock markets, and yet half the country denies the evidence staring them in the face and refuses to concede that insurance doesn't have to pay out to be a good idea.
Again, it doesn't matter why. It doesn't matter if Gore has a giant mansion heated exclusively with Amazonian hardwoods and baby seal blubber. We need to plan for the future, improve infrastructure and technology, and remember that the oil will run out a lot sooner than when the oceans flood our coastal cities.

IF it happens then not much we can do except to swim(said in a light hearted manner) ready for a shock middlesex mucker I actually agree with you in a way
not getting into this debate really much except if it was that serious then those who preach would be leading by example instead of being hypocritical.
seeing as you pointed out that they can tell us about what it was last centuary and seeing as your from england then I'm sure you''ll be aware that England was warmer a couple of hundred years ago than it is now plus one of queen elizabeth the first enjoyments was to walk about the vineyards,
imagine that hey england used to grow grapes up and down the country, now they are having one of the worst summers going or at least up north we are
anyway these discussions tend to lead to either bannings by someone with power who doesn't agree or the thread being closed which I noticed on the RI board,
so that's enough from me on this subject tra

are you joking and this article, what was it printed in?
ah the old global warming 2min showers and a piece of toilet roll fashion.
you're right bigfry I remember as a kid we were heading for an ice age. Infact throughout history people have said the world would come to an end for one reson or another
I'll worry about not seeing the foliage same as you and know to take it more seriously when those who preach to us about it, tell us the world is nigh, give up their big mansions, private jets, limos, big cars, boats, using extra energy to make themselves rich by doing concerts , movies etc, planting 10 trees after cruising cross country in a private jet just doesn't cut it for me.
a company building green houses, that's good but unfortunatly they cut down acres of trees (what gives us nice clean air) to build the houses
suzet
you have nothing to worry about, the leaves will change colour as they always have done and they'll be there for you to enjoy when you visit the great state of New Hampshire

Amen on pointing out the hypocrisy factor. As for the colors, whatever is or might be or might not be going on seems to be a very long-term kind of thing. It appears that you're talking decades at the least before seeing substantial change. One thing that does happen is that the color varies a little from year to year. I forget whether it's a hot, dry summer or a cool, wet summer that leads to less spectacular color during the ensuing fall, but it's something like that. Even when they're not at their most spectacular, the colors are beautiful. And they'll be there. Come on up, and enjoy!

I read the article in the Glamour magazine. Not the most earth conscience magazine I know..lol. But I was surprised by the article. It also stated that butterflies will be gone, polar bears will be extinct, coral reefs will be gone, summer nights(I dont know what they meant by that)but they said those will be gone too. It was in the Glamour Magazine in either the March or April of 2006.
I am not sure how I feel about Global Warming. If you listen to Al Gore, we are all doomed. But then others say it is the natural course of the planet. I do agree that with all the polutants we put in the air and in the ground, it has to be doing something to the planet. I do believe we need to find fuel alternatives for a lot of reasons. I also believe that there is a huge hypocrisy factor too. All I can do, is read as much as I can to educate myself on the subject, and be responsible.
I am very excited to be coming up there to see the foliage in person, as opposed to just looking at pictures . My family and I are going house hunting as well. Does it usually rain a lot in Oct? I dont mind the rain at all, but it would be nice if there were some clear days as well.

You'll get some rainy days in October, but more that are bright and clear, with low humidity. It's really one of the most pleasant times of the year around here.

Thanks for letting me know. How humid does it get there btw? Is it like down south humidity, where you feel sticky all the time?

Nah. It can get muggy on some of those hot summer days, but it usually goes away in a day or two. It doesn't last for weeks on end like the south. When it does get humid, it usually spawns short thunder storms sporadically throughout the region. I love those! Nothing like a warm rain on your face and then finding the rainbow afterward!

Foliage and global warming
My wife and I traveled up to The Magalloway area yesterday. Sure enough there were a few trees already starting to turn color. As you can tell I live in Colebrook. Last winter saw little snow but it did get cold, it was -30 a few times and below 0 more times than I want. But you know, I wouldn't want it any other way. The foliage will soon be changing to all the brilliant colors of the season . The nights now are in the 50's it's the best time of the year!
