Exclamation Fall Foliage and Global Warming

I read an article that listed the top 10 things that we will miss with global warming, fall foliage was on that list. Has anyone seen a change in the foliage? Is it starting earlier or later? Has the amount of color or the colors themselves changed? It breaks my heart at the thought of never having fall foliage.

Uh...there will be no change in the foliage for the unseeable future. Whether you fall under Al Gore's spell or not, the rate of warming that is "predicted" should have no effect on foliage for generations to come. I was up here for a week at the end of Sept. and the first part of Oct. last year and it was simply spectacular. I'm going to do it again this year.

Just think, thirty years ago the big story was a new ice age. Go figure.
(sorry, I didn't mean to get political on you! I'm just not in panic mode like some others.)

su
are you joking and this article, what was it printed in?

ah the old global warming 2min showers and a piece of toilet roll fashion.

you're right bigfry I remember as a kid we were heading for an ice age. Infact throughout history people have said the world would come to an end for one reson or another

I'll worry about not seeing the foliage same as you and know to take it more seriously when those who preach to us about it, tell us the world is nigh, give up their big mansions, private jets, limos, big cars, boats, using extra energy to make themselves rich by doing concerts , movies etc, planting 10 trees after cruising cross country in a private jet just doesn't cut it for me.

a company building green houses, that's good but unfortunatly they cut down acres of trees (what gives us nice clean air) to build the houses

suzet

you have nothing to worry about, the leaves will change colour as they always have done and they'll be there for you to enjoy when you visit the great state of New Hampshire

Hey Suzet

Th fears of global warming are well warranted- the trees that have made New Englanders proud in the Autumn- will be around for awhile longer. After 2025 all bets are off - sugar maples that provide the most brilliant color may begin to recede from southern New England in the next 2 to 3 decades- I do not see this happening from central to northern New England till after 2050. That is if the climatologists are not too conservative in their prognostications.Your children and their children shall be able to enjoy what I have most of my life. Northern New England will see colorful autumns for another 2 generations.

Your childrens childrens children and beyond will see the fall foliage. This cyclical climate change will change course again as it always has maybe a little longer on each end but it will change again.

I don't know where WIMU received his/her PhD in Climate Science, but maybe you should pay attention to this study issued by the Union of Concerned Scientists. The second link is the report on New Hampshire. This is a very important report which State policy people are taking very seriously. Global Warming to Hit U.S. Northeast Hard, Scientists Say
