Question Trash pick-up

I dont know if this has been asked before on the NH thread.. I saw it asked on the Vermont thread. How does NH handle garbage removal and recycling? Does someone come to your home and pick up the trash and recycling, or do we take it somewhere. Also, how do you make a compost patch? Oh, and also, can you burn any of your trash or leaves, in your yard?

Some towns have municipal trash pick up and others have a transfer station or dump. Some towns even have their own incinerators. Many towns have mandatory recycling. Check out this link:

NH Community Profiles

This will lead you to town profiles. Pick the town off the list and it will then open up into a whole list of things pertaining to the individual town. Scroll down and on the left side you will find the town government info including trash removal. As you can see, Keene does not offer curbside trash pick up.

Save the link; it's what I use most to help determine what the town may really be like. You just have to read between the data!

Is it paid for by the town (taxes)? According to the town profile data, Keene does not offer it as part of your town benefits. I'm sure you can pay for it through private companies (BFI. et al), but can you verify that it's through the town?

We looked at one complex (condos) in Lebanon and they had dumpsters (trash was included).

Waste Management is the big weekly curbside trash collector in Keene. There is a monthly fee that a homeowner or landlord pays and recycling is included. They will supply green boxes for recycling if you ask. They also will give you a printed schedule for paper and glass-plastic-cans etc. If you're using WM as your trash pick-up, I encourage you to start using the included recycling they offer.

We don't have municipal trash pickup. We can pay $50/quarter to have to picked up privately, but we choose to take it to the transfer station aka town dump. We also haul our recycling there. Very convenient as it is one stop recycling. Everything goes into one bin and it is sorted for us. We live in Bedford. IIRC municipal trash pickup is paid for with property taxes.

The Town of Londonderry has contracted with WM for weekly trash and recycle pick up. Yard waste, haz waste (specific dates), construction debris, appliances, furniture, scrap metal & electronics can be taken to the Town recycle place on south road. A separate dumping fee is charged. We appreciate the curb side pick up because hauling the trash to the transfer station would be a huge inconvenience.

In my town we bring the trash to the dump along with the recycling. One can get private pickup, but it costs $500 per year. I'd estimate that 80% of the people go to the dump ("transfer station") once a week...
