Question Question about something that has me perplexed

Okay, so what else is new...I have something I don't understand and can honestly say I never saw or heard of in NYS.

Today, along 302, near Shaw's, WalMart, etc., I saw a realtor's sign on a grassy area, which was mowed, not overgrown, that said "for lease." There are no buildings on this "patch", it didn't look all that big.......why would someone lease land and what would they do with it once they leased it? I guess I could understand it if it was not so close to the road or where it was situated (i.e. more in a "farm type area") where it could be leased for cows to graze or some kind of vegetable farm, or whatever.

Does anyone have any ideas on why someone would lease land like this...what could you do with it? Of course, having a lease on property may be totally different from, say having a lease for a house or an apartment that you rent - maybe you aren't actually renting the land??

I just can't wrap my brain around this concept.....HAAALP!

P.S. Is this a common practice in NH?

What you're describing could be used for a lot of different businesses, espcially ones that can park one of those portable offices on it. One example I can think of is a construction company with lots of trucks. It doesn't have to be their main office, it can just be a storage lot.

There is a patch of land near me that at one time had a bunch of new cars sitting on it. The cars were not being sold there, they were just being stored there. Apparently some dealership needed the storage space and leased that patch of land for a short time.

Thanks JMX - that would make sense for that area. I never thought of something like that - my mind immediately went to putting a building there and couldn't figure out why or even how that could be done (my mind works in strange ways). What you said makes a LOT more sense!
