Default Living in NH - Nashua

I may be getting a job in Nashua. Coming from Northeast Ohio I have many questions about life, climate and cost.
In Ohio we get good snow from lake effect - is the snow manageable of removal by the city? Do you use salt or ash? Has the city every been shut down due to weather? How late can you expect the snow to end?

The midwest has a moderate cost of living. I hear New England is very pricey - but city-data shows the average medium income to be the same as where I live now. How are the costs for food, apartments, etc.? (this helps me if I have to negotiate a salary)

I am very liberal and open-minded. New Hampshire is the "live free or die" state. How blue is New Hampshire (I don't mean how cold)?

Any information is helpful. I will go if I get the job and love it. I just want to be prepared.

Climate wise; Nashua will be a wee milder then northeastern Ohio- snow here is usually from Atlantic coastal storms, and sometimes snow squalls from a front coming in from the west or northwest.

Snow is cleared very quickly here- rarely does the state need to 'shutdown' .The 'Blizzard of 1978' shut most of New England down.
The use of salt on roads has lessened- and now includes sand and a variety of chemicals.

Snow can occur as late as April- but on average the last large snow events end by late March. New Hampshire's climate is feeling the effects of climate change with milder winters and warmer, longer summers.

Housing prices in southern New Hampshire, while 'cheap' by northeastern Washington to Portland Megalopolis standards will be much higher then northeast Ohio- they will be about double what prices are for metro Cleveland. Price for a single family home in southern New Hampshire will average around 250K(Median)- A 2 bedroom townhouse 1100 square feet near 170K. The cost of living will generally be higher-though not severally so. Items like seafood will be less. Apartments of high quality; 2 bedrooms-will average over $1100 a month.

New Hampshire is a moderate state- which has tended 'blue' in state and federal elections of late. The state recently passed a civil unions law for gay couples- and has had a anti discrimination law against gays for several years.
