Talking Trip to Keene is a go...

Hey to all my NH friends, my family and I finally bought our train tickets!! I am so excited. We cant wait to get out there. I have been searching for things to do, there are so many things we want to see...We are staying a few days in So Vermont, 4 days in Keene, then going to Salem, MA and then off to Boston for a few days. My daughter is all excited about seeing Salem..lol. She wants to visit all the witch sites. Its kinda funny, I bet all that stuff to you guys is no big deal because you are there. Just like when people want to know from me what Hollywood is like, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills, etc...FYI, Hollywood is probably the most disgusting filthy place I have ever been to.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone for all your responses to my questions, no matter how silly. Your imput and thoughts have been great. I cant wait to call NH my home. Which is so crazy, because for the last 2 years it was So Vermont. We just feel Keene would be the better choice for us, and my daughter found a college she wants to attend there. So it's all good.

We all agree on getting out of Calif though. As I am typing this, it is 2:25 am and 80 degrees. The heat here is just awful. 114 today, and it is going to be that way till next Thursday.

Well anyway....hope you all have a great Friday, the last day of Aug. This summer went by so fast, but that is a good thing, it is getting closer to the time we leave!!!

Enjoy your trip. You will love NH believe me. We were unsure 20 years ago when we moved from WI and except for a 6 year bout of insanity in OH we would never leave this area again. We have the peace we always sought and the beauty to boot.

WIMU, that is exactly what my family is looking for. I am so glad that you and your family found it. People out here in So Cali, pretty much laugh at us when we tell them we are moving back east. They say we will see you back in 2 months. I really hate that. Not one person has been positive or happy for us, yet another reason we are moving. They are making us feel like we are bad people for not liking the Cali lifestyle. I actually hate it!! People are so fake and just dont care about others the way that my family and I do. I keep saying we were born in the wrong state. I dont get the people out here, and this has been my home all my life. It will be a bittersweet move for us. But a very welcomed one too.

Hey congrats on the tickets, You're gonna love New England, and your coming at a great time.. Listen when I moved from Florida after living there for 23 years people told me oh your're gonna miss it, you'll be back in a year, my family still gives my guilt trips etc. Since moving up north I have not missed Naple Fl ONCE , not once and I have no desire to go back. I would tell people I'm moving to NH when I lived down there and would get, oh why are you doing that, its cold up there, its always grey up there, it snows.. I finally told people to shut up. It seemed to me that the people who don't live here are way more miserable than people who do. (not that I've met anyone miserable here, but I'm just saying). Don't listen to what other people are saying, they are not happy with their situation so they're gonna bring you down too. I ignored it all, came up with my own thoughts about NH and found I am more much more happier here, even though I don't have a single family member within 1,500 miles of me, than I ever was living 5 mins from them.

You had said you're going to be looking at houses and what not I believe, go to the chamber of commerce right on Mainstreet you can't miss it and ask them for maps, and how to get to Western Keene. That is where some very nice neighborhoods are, a lot of the cops and firefighters live out there. Its safe, close to the highschool, and a hop skip and jump into town. Swanzy has covered bridges so check those out, once again the chamber should have maps, Ashuelot Park is a beautiful garden park with a waterfall type of thingy.. can't explain it , its also a dog park and has walking trails.. Robinhood park is my favorite, there you will find a drive lined in trees, a beautiful lake, and you can drive straight through the park on top of the hill. Also take a drive down Maple Ave. (check your maps its imo one of the most beautiful roads in Keene, the trees just tower over the road and come right up to it. There are bike and running paths in the trees on that road.

Eat at Timoleons on Main street, all the locals go and sit at the breakfast bar and chat, you can get breakfast for 3 bucks and sit at the big glass window and watch all the passerby's on main street, we go ever sunday, see ya there! Then for dinner hit up Athens Pizza or Pizza Pi.

You're going to have a great time for sure. If you need a day out of Keene drive north for about a half hour, its a beautiful drive you border the connecticut river most of the way, and hit up Fort at Number 4, a historical working fort where they dress like in the old times. Or do the green mountain flyer and see the autumn colors

Salem is a blast! Just don't get caught up in EVERY witch museum.. Go to one.. get the history and guide yourself. Go to The House at Seven Gables.. That was the best. I loved it.. Salem is spooky for sure

Boston is a wonderful city don't forget to see Boston Common, Paul Revere and Sam Adams grave and others that are older than you can imagine.

You'll have to tell us how your trip went and what decisions you've made.!

Salem MA is great. I actually was born there but we moved to Northern NH when I was 6. We lived literally right across the street from the House of Seven Gables.

We took the whole family back for a tourist visit a few years ago and had a great time. Don't forget to hit up the Ye Old Pepper Company candy shop on Hardy street right near the House of the Seven Gables.

I live about 45 min. North fo Keene and we ar actually leaving any minute to go down there for a shopping trip. We want to go to the Colony Mill Market place. The Colony Mill Marketplace: Keene, NH

Wow, once again Tara, I thank you so much for all your wonderful information!!! I dont even know where to begin to respond...lol. Ugh, dont you hate it when people have to be so negitive about you trying something new. Most people dont have the ****s to actually get up and move to a brand new state. For the rest of us who do, I applaude us all. Who says we have to live and die in the same place, that thought depresses me. I want to feel the happiness that so many people have expressed on this board about living in NH.

Thanks for the tips on places to eat. If the locals go there, you know the food is gonna be good.

I like the idea of living where the cops and firefighters are. You know you will be a bit safer. Since my hubby travels for work, that will make me feel better.

The parks sound beautiful. Do you know if there are places to rent bikes for a few hours? I am excited to see my first covered bridge. Can you drive over most of them, or are they for walking traffic on only?

I know what you mean about Salem. I have researched things to do there to try to figure out what it is we want to see. There are so many witchy things, and tours. There is one where you get to "ghost hunt" which of course my daughter is insisting we do..haha. I dont think we will be board there.

While we are in Boston, since it is Halloween time, we are going to make the 45 min drive to the Lizzie Borden House in keeping with the "spirit" of the season. The hubby wants to see what is left of Plymouth Rock, so we will do that too. They have a cool lantern tour at night, and they tell the tales of haunted Plymouth. Haha, after all this ghost searching and stories, I might not sleep again. Actually I love all that spooky stuff.

Oh yes, I will have so many pics to share, of course I will put some up

People feel threatened because by leaving you are not AFFIRMING them that their lifestyle is the best.

Hey there no prob, after talking about it the hubby and I went out driving around today, just putzin around. The bridges in Swanzey are passable by car they're one car a at time, old wood floor you go across, I think I have a pic of one..Yah this one's in Swanzy, there are many there

The ghost hunts sound exciting. We have a supposedly haunted cemetary here in Keene. I've had an odd experience there myself its right on Beaver street which is off of Court street, Court street branches off of Main street rotary. LOL hope that didn't confuse you.. Its on maps. n e ways this is what they say about the cememarty

Keene - Woodlawn Cemetery - Sumner Knight Chapel - The whole area near the Knight Chapel is a major hotspot. The chapel itself is home to a very unhappy spirit and it's presence is almost overwhelmingly strong as you get within 15 feet of the Chapel. Near the chapel is the spirit of a little girl who will sneak around and peer from behind trees at you and on voice recorders you can get sounds of a girl giggling. You have to go away from the Chapel to encounter her. Warning, do not curse in front of the Chapel. There is a spirit who will wash your mouth out with soap if you do. Several people have documented the taste of soap in their mouths and others can smell the soap (Similar to Ivory Bar Soap in my opinion) on the breaths of the victims.

I have a feeling this cemetery will be one of our first stops, once I tell my daughter about it. Haha, I think my hubby might be a "victim" of the soap. It is crazy to think that any place has "spirits" floating around. I love ghosts stories, they just fascinate me. I love looking at covered bridges. To me, they are so beautiful. You cant think of New England and not think of covered bridges.

I thought I would just throw this in...My daughter and I went yesterday to see the new "Halloween" movie because we both love scarey movies. This movie was so over the top. Not a good movie to see if you have panic attacks. I swear I didnt think I was going to make it!! My daughter was all freaked out too. Usually we are like yeah go, or dont open the door, etc...but this one, no one in the theater talked at all. I think we were all in shock. I guess having Rob Zombie involved with the movie should of tipped us off. We left there feeling sick. I dont want to go into details, no spoil alerts..lol. We did actually felt sorry for Michael Myers in the begining...Crazy movie. If you see it, bring ear plugs!!! You'll thank me later.

Ohhh halloween eeekkkkkkk!!! I hate scary movies, with the hubby getting night shifts at the PD once in a while I try to minimize the fright factor, being home alone at night cures you of needing those adreneline rushes lol. When I was growning up , to me, New England was always "haunted" all the houses were haunted, I always imagined hearing footsteps in the attic, or opening the door and seeing a ghost child sitting on the basement steps..I think subconsiously it always stuck with me.

Buuutt speaking of Halloween it looks like we're getting ready for here! I passed by the Hallmark store today and they had their window all decked out in autumn/halloween.. I tried to get a good picture but no matter where I stood there was a sun glare, but this is the letter of 9 evils lol

Theennnn tonight at music festival I saw a new window that musta been decorated today of all pumpkins.. not the best picture either but I was trying to get it dark to see the faces all lit up.. Every morning I wake up it seems more and more leaves are changing, the season and holidays are definetly upon us and its starting to feel that way up in NE. Esp on a day like to day when it was 75 degrees out and 44 at night. BBBBBrrrr Feellss goooddd!!!
