Not too much! I think my prayers have finally been heard after 40 years!
We got dumped on Halloween and Thanksgiving, but after that all we've had has been dustings.
What makes it treacherous though are the temps. Above freezing in the day, below at night makes for a persistent sheet of ice. Our trail in the woods is passable only with cleats. And our driveway tends to become a tobaggon run anyway, this year even more so.
We can see a LOT of grass, there is maybe a 1-2 " ice layer of cover. Two warm days like Monday and it would be gone!
The pond downhill from our condo is frozen but not thick enough for safety. The glacier that usually covers the lawn between the pond and the house formed but then went away. This has, so far, been the dryiest and warmest in the 26 years we have been here. I kind of like it.
I'm looking up the hill to our northern field and see alot of grass. I'm contemplating bringing the sheep from the barn and dry lot back up to pasture.
Though, I know that as soon as I do move them we will buried under 2 feet of the white stuff. Typically our lambs are born in the worst weather of the season. We just had our first lamb this season born a couple of days ago so I expect the weather to get really bad now.
Should have figured this winter to be like this. After all, I did buy a new snowblower and a second plow set up.
I'm blessed to have plenty of carpentry work but lots of folks I know depend on the snow to make a living in the winter. It's been real tough for the plow guys, ski resorts and everybody that profits in the trickle down effect from the snowmobilers, skiers, ice fishermen, etc.
Hardly anything after the October storm. The state is losing huge amounts of potential income and revenue from this non-winter. The only winning aspect has been lower heat costs for residential and commercial customers.
As of today in both Manchester and Nashua there is only a trace of snow and ice in the shady areas. Lawns bare of snow and the roads have no snow on the sides. I washed both cars in my driveway of Saturday and they really didn't have any salt stains.
My snowmobiling friends are unhappy but I and my co-workers do not miss the snow!
The GFS model, which has been woefully wrong this winter, predicts a stormier and colder setup for later this month. I won't believe it until I see it.
