Post Mountains and daylight during winter.

I was wondering how much the White Mountains affect the amount of daylight in the winter months. Does the sun disappear behind the mountains very early in the afternoon during winter? I really like winter sports and was wondering if the morning hours are the best to partake in snowboarding and skiing in the White Mountains and surrounding areas? When I last visited the mountains a few years ago in January I remembered it getting dark between 3:30-4PM in the mountainous areas. I do realize that the mountains can create micro-climates in certain areas as well. It is interesting to study those local affects.

It does get dark around 4:00 p.m. but there are many ski resorts that have night skiiing with lights all over the slopes and beyond so morning or night, it all can be done.

It gets dark very early everywhere in NH in the dead of winter. There's nothing like leaving for work in the dark in the a.m. and coming out at night in the dark. Pretty awful, as I'm remembering it now.

in the winter - the lifts stop loading around 3:45, some even 3:30....even though the areas are open until 4 for day skiing.

I find that the light gets flat around 2:30 and it's a little more difficult to see bumps, but not enough to keep me off the slopes...

The mountains stay around all winter but the sunlight heads for Argentina in Nov, Dec, Jan. Not so bad this time of the year. Ski slopes are generally on the northeast side of the mountains because they get more natural snow and it stays around longer. I suggest skiing in the morning and partying in the afternoon.
