What's up with Franklin (Laconia: sex offenders, home, neighborhoods)

I was just looking at the data and I saw that there are 30 reg. sex offenders in Franklin. Seems high to me. Can anyone tell me about Franklin? I have 4 small children and I love the town (on paper). Is it a good place to raise kids?

That does seem high for a town the size of Franklin. If at all possible, visit towns you are interested in to check out the neighborhoods, especially the more run-down areas. Better to be aware of these things right from the beginning!!

LACONIA – A teenage girl was able to fight off a man last night who assaulted her and then tried to force her into his car, according to police.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding the 6-foot man who tried to grab the teen about 7:45 p.m. from a parking lot at TD Banknorth, just off Winter Street.

The girl was able to get away from her 6-foot abductor by punching him in the face and then running, police said. She suffered minor injuries to her face, side, hand and leg.

The incident began on Union Avenue as the teen was walking home from a friend's house. A large black, older model four-door car passed her but then she saw it turn around and start to follow her, police said.

Terrified, the girl started to run but the man, believed to be in his late 40s with dark hair, brown eyes and some facial hair, caught up to her at the bank parking lot. He grabbed her, hit her in the face, left side and leg and then tried to force her into the car.

The teen fought back and punched him in the face, which gave her a chance to run for help.

The man was wearing a white T-shirt and dark leather jacket at the time of the attempted kidnapping.
