Question about NH
I posted a thread 9/7 about Stoddard and even though 65 people apparently read it, no one has responded at all. I'm just looking for some info on the area. Does no one live in that area? I really got the impression that NH was a very helpful, friendly state, but now I'm so disappointed that I can't even get a reply from anyone. I just wanted to know what life was like in the Highland lake area and any other information that could be helpful. I was also interested in the EMT and Fire Service. I am an EMT and my husband has over 30 years experience in fire service (was Chief 2x ). Maybe someone out there in one of the fire departments can help out.
I'd really appreciate anything , any information and maybe just a friendly hello with suggestions of where else to seek information besides the town's website.
Thanks so much

Hello
We all are friendly here, sorry that nobody replied...
Sometimes the creator of a post may need to "bump" it back to the top by replying to the original post. Anyway, I wish I could help you Deb, but Stoddard is way out in the western part of the state... There are some folks here from (or with knowledge of) the Keene area. I'm just not one of them

Deb - I can't offer you anything except a big HI
I have no idea about Stoddard or surrounding areas, so I'm sorry I can't be of any help...I would have said to check out the town website. It may be that nobody has been around lately who knows that town/area - be patient and maybe someone will show up

Many of the people here are looking to move TO the state. Stoddard is a small town (pop 928), so not too many visitors to this post will have ever been there. You're also not going to have truckloads of EMT and fire people cruising the forum every day.
Anyhoo:
Info on the town:
City Data: http://www.city-data.com/city/Stodda...Hampshire.html
Town web page: Stoddard Home
Census data: Stoddard, New Hampshire
EMT and Fire are volunteer. Part-time police. There are approx 1000 households. Average income and home prices are considerably lower than the state average, but normal for the area.

Hello Deb41912!
HELLO DEB41912!
WELCOME TO THE NH FORUM!
YES, PEOPLE IN NH ARE VERY VERY FRIENDLY & HELPFUL!!!
However, here is the thing, this is just my humble opinion.
This forum tends to be very very ACTIVE during the fall & winter. It slows down a bit during the summer, because everyone is trying to take advantage of the good weather & the outdoors while it lasts! So maybe that is one of the reasons that you have not received a reply. The other one is, that from what I looked up, its a very small town of approx. 1000 people.
Its in CHESHIRE County in the Southwestern part of the state.
From what I read, its a town of volunteers, concerning your question about employment.
I do not know if you have looked at the following link regarding New England real estate. Its called NNEREN(Northern New England Real Estate Network). You will get a box and then you can plug in the town you are looking for, that will at least give you an idea of the real estate market in the town.
The other link I saw was Stoddardnh.org.
Also, you can plug in the name STODDARD, in the "SEARCH THIS THREAD" tab up above, in case someone else has asked about it in the past, the results will pop up.
Please do not feel neglected , people on this forum are very helpful & kind!
I wish I could be of more help, but I am also in the process of trying to move to NH, so I am in the same boat. But I can tell you, that people on this forum have been very helpful & have gone out of their way to get me information!
The moderator for this forum seems to be very familiar with the New England area, his name is "SKYTREKKER" and he will probably chime in soon! He is also very helpful!!
By the way, you can also check at Craigslist New Hampshire to get an idea about rentals as well.
Anyway, good luck with your search! HANG IN THERE !!!
Researching everything is time consuming, but its all worth it!!
Take good care!
CHEERS!

Stoddard is in the boonies! Not much there, just some houses. Most of the homes are around Highland Lake (nice lake). The nearest town with services is Hillsborough. Keene is the nearest area for jobs and culture. If you follow Rt. 123 north toward Alstead, there is nothing, and I mean nothing. Just a couple of farms and woods. You may go a few miles to the next house. Went through the area last year, but never stopped.
So many people read this forum, and many will click on a question just to look, not everyone will have an answer for you. Many people, like myself, just come here to look and gather info. There are a few that live in NH, but most of us are in the same boat as you. Nobody meant any disrespect, just keep plugging! You'll get a response just like you did here!!

Hi I'm sorry no one replied to your previous thread. I do live in Cheshire County however I am in Keene. I only drove through Stoddard once and I didn't see much of anything there. The main hub of the SW corner of NH is Keene. The best I can get in relation to EMT/Firefighter is my husband is a Police Officer so its a government job. I don't know of many of the towns having fulltime paid EMT/Firefighter other than Keene and Swanzey which are not volunteer. I know 1 town over Surry doesn't even have a full time Police Department. Unless you get closer to the bigger towns you're probably just gonna have small stores, lots of homes and volunteer firefighting and police.

Well i've never heard of that place and i've lived in N.H. 18 years. Most people are probably just reading your post because you have it titled questions on N.H. and then they read the post and realize they don't live there either or like me, have never heard of it. Maybe make another post with Questions on Stoddard as the title then people won't have to open up the thread to see what info your looking for. Questions on N.H. can mean just about anything and as you see 65 people tried to help answer your questions only to find out it was not a general N. H. state question but a specific area which is why you haven't got any responsed from those 65 people.
P.S. Sorry. i just saw your other thread titled Stoddard only. I guess like i said, people are interseted in what you want to know but really don't have the answers for you on that specific area. But hey, at least you got people looking to answer your questions by having so many views.

OK here ya go Stoddard is a small town as you have been told. as for work Peterborough Hillsboro Keene all have paid EMT. all these towns are within 30 min of Stoddard. Keene is about 20 miles and probably your best bet for work. but the other towns I mentioned are good as well.Stoddard is a bedroom community of Keene. so your shopping will be done there. Hillsboro is about 20 min up the road. they have shopping as well. and Peterborough has a few stores too.
