Hi, I saw your post about NH winters v. Fingerlakes region of NY. I would say, from my experience, that the Central, NY and NH average temperatures in the winter are about the same. Western New York/ Central NY State will trend toward the warmer end of the scale as Lakes Erie and Ontario keep the region warmer in winter.
I am a native of Buffalo. I moved to NYC in my 20's then after a few years, relocated to Southern New Hampshire. Londonderry, specifically. I have since moved back to the Western New York area.
I disagree with the other poster to your question.
Our first year there, we had approximately 15 Nor'Easters...Usually Mondays and Fridays. We had 25 straight days of below ZERO temps.
The cold winter temps were consistant for all five years that we lived there. Three years in a row, we had so much snow and ice on the roofs, that DH and I were up there shoveling...Mind you we never had to do that in Western New York. Homes were caving in. Plus there was more snow on the ground throughout the winters than we have had in Buffalo...with the exception of the big Xmas eve snowstorm a few years back.
Our last winter there, we had a snow/ice storm in December. We lost power for six days. I had a 5 week old baby at the time. What did I do? I high tailed it back to Buffalo, until the power was restored.
Also, keep in mind....the MUD seasons. From April to June, it is cold, damp and very rainy. From August 15- mid October is the other MUD season. Rain, Rain, Rain. I kid you not, the leaves are beginning to change in August.
Now, after all that rant....
...I do LOVE New Hampshire and would move back there in a NY Minute. It is beautiful there. The schools are great. The wild life is beautiful there. Gotta just love the shopping.
I also like the no sales tax or Income tax. That is why the property tax, luxery tax and Car tax are so high...but I'd take those anyday over NYS taxes.
In fact, we are planning to go there this weekend for a return visit.
I hope that I was able to help you!
Takboof.
