I have been in love with a house that is listed on NNEREN. I have been watching it for 6 months longingly, even though I know it won't be for sale in nearly 3 yrs when we move. Especially since it has already dropped 25,000 in price. My question is...if it is still on the market when we go up there, would it be inappropriate of me to contact the realtor for the address so that we could go by and see it? I don't want to inconvenience anyone knowing full well that I am not a prospective buyer yet. This house just reminds me of my grandmothers and I would LOVE to go see it. It is vacant, by the way, so I wouldn't be peeking in windows on someone (I was going to DM Val, but I didn't want to put her on the spot)). Any opinions are appreciated.

Do it!! They don't need to know you are not in the market yet. Just say you have some passing interest in the house and would like a peek. What's it to them? If you are not a prospective buyer now, you will be later. If you and the realtor hit it off, it will only help later when you come back to them. A potential sale is still a lead. Why would they chase it away!

Analogous story:
I've gone in and test driven many cars that are completely out of my monetary range, just to have some fun. I usually tag the salesman along a bit, but hey, it's a consumer market and if test drives are part of it, too bad. What do they know about my finances or my life? Nothing. I'm just a potential customer. I just like to BS them a bit!!!

Have fun!! Go check it out!!! Tell us what you think after!!

Default I can help.

My husband and I just happen to be house hunting. Get me the information on the house (where I can find it on the internet) or as much info as you can about who to call (realtor) and if there is a MLS # or something to distinguish it from other listings, and I will find out about it for you.

hi Kelleybell
Gee I should have checked the CD Forum earlier so I could have helped you. You can always feel free to email me directly (Valerie@SNHhome.com) and I can check out things for you. And it's not "putting me on the spot"... that's what I do

Of course you are completely free to contact the list agent on any properties. But always remember that their job is to get the best offer for their Seller, and any info that you share (such as your motivation level, how much you're qualified for, etc). can and will be shared with their client.

Note the MLS number from NNEREN. Go here:

http://newhampshire.yahoo.newenglandhomesearch.com/

Create an account with them, and then plug the MLS number into their search. It'll spew out the address.

Thanks so much for your advice and offers.
I didn't even know I could get the addresses on my own online, so thank you rmcewan and bryfry(dm).
Val, I think an 11hr. reponse time on a Sunday is ABOVE average. I would like to get a buyers agent when we start to get serious about looking. Too bad you only do the southern part of NH. I'd like to work with you, but we are looking around Plymouth.

Yeah, wish I could help you but Plymouth is WAY out of my area... A buyers agent is usually a good idea (but be sure to steer clear of the one that kaotic came across!) The first rule of thumb is to just see a couple of places with an agent before you sign on. Don't be too impressed by a Lexus or other status symbol (this from an agent who drives either a pickup truck or an Impala) but don't hold it against them either. Maybe they have a DH that's a doctor or lawyer! And don't let anyone pressure you into signing a contract that you're not comfortable with. A contract can be for a day, a week, a month or you can have a non-agency agreement at least until you feel comfortable that you've come across an agent with ethics (yes, there are a few of us around but just like the news on TV (always bad...) we don't get the press-time that the slimeball agents do.

why not ask a real estate broker near you. if he gives you bad advise you can do something bout it. if you ask here all that happens is that the people that run this forum get yelled at.

kelley, I"m a heck of alot closer to Plymouth than you are right now. PM me some info, and I"ll get on it for you.

And it's up to you, but I wouldn't recommend that you contact the listing agent directly. Since you're coming in from a different area, you'll want to be able to look at as many homes as you wish, to get a feeling of what a value is and isn't...

Val, You are exactly right. Home values are completly different between FL and NH. This will be our first trip since deciding to move (the first up there ever for hubby and kids) so we want to check out houses that are in our price range to get a feel for what we can expect, towns we prefer, etc... I did sign up for the 2 links that were suggested by rmcewan and bryfry, as well as google earth. I got the address for the house I'm dying to see! Yea! If I find a house that I want to see all I have to do is type in the MLS# on one of those sites and it gives me the address, plus I can plug the address into google earth and see what is nearby. What a great tool! I'm having so much fun with it. Thank you so much for your offer! Maybe, if you don't mind, I can take you up on your offer if I find a house I want to look at and can't get the address?? I don't plan on making a list of homes that I want to see until we get closer to Feb because I'm sure that alot of them won't still be on the market in another 4 1/2 months.
