I taught in the Londonderry school system until I had my children and am now a SAHM. It is a wonderful school system filled with many great kids and families. We moved a few years ago and I had hoped to settle in Londonderry. Unfortunately it wasn't possible without extending my husband's already long commute.

It sounds like Londonderry, Windham and Hollis are your top options right now. Other things you may want to consider are city water vs. well, septic vs. city sewer, and heating options. Many homes in Hollis/Brookline school district and Windham will not have these features. Some homes in Londonderry may, depending on the area. I am not originally from NH so relocating here I thought it was important to take those home features into account.

Also, you are looking in the same areas we did almost three years ago. There are ways to check out the ratings of public schools online too, such as Great Schools. Good luck!

Thanks for your insight and experience, I think you are correct that I am on the same road you once travelled.

Is it incorrect for me to work on the assumption that homes in Windham are newer and have better city water vs. well, septic vs. city sewer, and heating options.

Actually, the opposite is true: Windham is 100% private septic (sewer) and well water, except for a couple of developments (mostly condo/townhouse) that have community wells/septic. Very limited, if any natural gas. There is one residential neighborhood in Londonderry that has public water, public sewer service and natural gas. As you might imagine, this is a highly desirable neighborhood and homes aren't on the market often, or for very long...

If public/public is important to your family, you might also consider Bedford, just west of Manchester. There are quite a few neighborhoods that are connected to the public water supply and sewer system, or community septic ( vs. private septic system in each yard). Very good schools, brand new high school, and excellent rec. programs for children & adults. The tradeoff is that it's 15-25 minutes further north than Londonderry, and Londonderry is 10-15 minutes further north than Windham...
