Hello all,
New to the forum and have been going through the archives regarding Bedford, NH and schools/special education. We have a 7 year old son who is on the autism spectrum. High functioning but has some difficulties in social skills. Have a job offer in Nashua and considering Bedford for it's public school system. Anyone with any recent experience with the current offerings for autistic children in Bedford's public school system? Any experience with Windham?

I cannot help you with those towns, but I know someone in Amherst who has an autistic son. He is about 16 years old. Send me a message and I can connect you.

BTW, I have a cousin in Ireland who is a nun and she teaches autistic children in rural Ireland. I always tell her she is doing the Lord's work and won't let her pay for anything when she visits...

Thank you for replying.

We are not thrilled with the "non-traditional" aspect of the Amherst school system.

If anyone can give their experience with first hand information with the Bedford or Windham school systems regarding a child with autism it would be appreciated. I have combed through the archives but most of the info is at least a couple of years old.

Thanks.

Hi Drmetal, Did you ever move to NH? We may be moving to NH as well and were also considering Bedford and Windham for our son on the spectrum. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have a friend that lived in Bedford with a kiddo with ASD. Two times their kiddo wandered off in the school and they couldn't find him. The first time the parent didn't know this had happened. The second time was during pick-up time, and they admitted they didn't know where he was and that this had "happened before" with their boy. This boy was non-verbal. This was a couple years ago, so hopefully things have changed. My friend took their child out of the Bedford school system after that.

As far as the academics, we didn't talk about that.
