Criticizing says more about the one criticizing than the one being criticized. As for "advice," that is something given when and if we ask for it. Not all places appeal to everyone -- it's more of a "fit," and if you and yours believe that Keene, NH is yours, well that's all you need to know, whether it works out in the long term or not. We all make mistakes and are only human, but if we are expected to be responsible for ourselves then we should at least be able to make our own choices. Good luck with your move -- I hear Keene, NH is absolutely charming.

Hi Suzet,
You really can't listen to the naysayers. If you want to move to Keene, go for it. There's no reason why you can't.
In December, I left Southern California and drove across country ALONE to live in New England. I'm only about 45 minutes from Keene and was just there over the weekend.
I was scared about making the big move, but once you do it, you realize, it is not a big deal. The culture and weather are very different here, but you get used to it. I have boots and jackets and gloves, and I go outside and walk around in all kinds of weather. When it snows, you grab a shovel and clear a path on your walkway.
It's just life in another part of the country. I needed a change, and I'm really glad I made the trip.
As the saying goes: "If you want something you've never had before, you have to do something you've never done before."
Don't live your life in fear. Make the move. It's a different world over here, but you make it work.

Great advice Carrot! On oh so many levels! New England surely is a beautiful part of the Country, and it's nice to hear when someone enjoys it for what it is.

mikekilo that is awesome!!! I am so happy that living in NH has been that good for you and your wife. If it was up to me, I'd be there tomorrow. I am keeping up hope that something will happen for us this year as far as moving out there.

Smart move years ago! Increases in real estate and school tax effected you much? Perhaps I should consider NH in my search ...hmm something to think about.

Hey there Captjob , yeah we havent seen you around for a bit. Hope all is well with you and yours. As for our moving status, well it is up in the air right now. I am hoping for a visit out there this coming summer, and then I am going to try like heck to get the hubby to "see" the beauty out there, and to fall in love with it, and hopfully buy a place soon after. He is so busy with his work, I always joke I am a work widow . I keep tellin him that our daughter and I will stay in NH and he can do the bi-costal thing. We will see what life has in store for us. I do believe things happen at the right time, everytime we try to rush something, it seems to go wrong. I just wish this move would happen a bit faster...

Suzet - I agree with what you said. Our move was fast and not planned. We had been talking about moving to NH eventually, not really having any idea where, though. Hubby was resourced/retired from IBM in June of 2005 and found another job in our old area and we were still talking about moving. In April of 2006 he went online, found a job up here in Littleton. We came up the day he found the ad for the job so he could interview and I could look around...he got the job, we found a rental and moved, all in 3 weeks. Shocked the heck out of everyone (me included!). He had the job, we had a place so we just took the leap of faith and up we came. It cost us financially, in that we had to break the lease in NY, but it was worth it. Like you said, when the time is right....well, it's right....and you'll know. May be sooner than you think, may take longer, but if you're supposed to move to NH, you will............

How Funny! My wife wants me to move her and the kids to NH today and just commute the 3000 miles to work every day.
I am hoping to go on a solo tour of NH in May and meet with more locals and some in the real estate biz to show me around. I have been following the Winter and the change in posts over the last few months to se how everyone is doing out there. I can tell the winter will be a challeng for us used to the warm climates. I am more cautious that the wife however.
Keep going for it and hopefully you will be there soon. Definatly before me.
