Well, nancie, isn't it a bit odd that Keene has only one vowel? Hmmmmmmm??

Thumbs up Keene is a great place to raise your kids

There is NO mistake in moving from So Cal to Keene, NH. I am in the process of moving my family from Keene to Pennsylvania where the job opportunity is so good I could not turn it down. The Keene area is tremendous. You can get a house with a LAWN!!! Some TREES!!! and you don't hear your neighbors asking for the salt at dinner time.

I am moving from about 4 miles south of Keene (Swanzey) because of a great job opportunity in Pennsylvania. I have tried to find a neighborhood which could come close to the neighborhood we have here in Swanzey and cannot find it. We have 2 acres of land, beautiful yard and trees, a wonderful neighborhood where we all know each others names and we look after each other and each others kids.

Oh and by the way - this is NOT a "distinguished" road I live on. Our home is a 2100 square foot ranch with 4 beds and 2 bath. It is in a neighborhood that is pretty typical of what you can expect here.

If these are traits you value, then you will very much like the Keene, NH area.

I just visited my folks this past weekend in Harrisville (just outside of Keene.) I grew up in Keene, and was in Keene visiting friends and whatnot for most of the weekend.

Keene is like comfort food. It will always be great no matter what. Property taxes are high, rentals aren't cheap, and the job market isn't great, but the Monadnock region is one of the best ones in NH.

Kellybelle, Where are you in Florida? I am on the west coast and have been thinking of getting out of here also.I have been here 40 years and am now retired. I was born and raised in the north east but as you can see it has been a very long time since I have had to deal with the cold. Being on a fixed income I am thinking it may be a little difficult to find something that I could afford but I feel if I keep looking something may turn up. It is just a matter of fitting in and making new friends and once that happens everything will fall into place. Good luck with your search if you haven't already made the move.

I looked over the Keene,New Hamshire statistics, despite having been there on countless occasions during my endless trips to New Enland and up to Nova Scotia when I was young and what an underrated city it is in 2012.
If I were young and healthy....I would love to move to this neck of the woods. If anyone is reading this soon...take the
affirmative from a world travel man and give it two years or more.....nice home etc.

Keene would be a better town if it could develop a stronger tax base with more businesses. The tax rate is debilitating and is getting worse there.
