Suz, when will you be moving?

One thing you will love about Keene is your close enough to access places like Boston, the coast and so forth but your not in the thick of it all.

DareToDream, Please post any time you feel the need to ramble! That was a wonderful post.
The depth of ones heart & soul does have more meaning than the surface of flash & glitter.

My hubby is my best friend, so I feel very fortunate in that respect. We've been able to face
things together for awhile now, so I imagine that would be a benefit for us. I'm only a little
concerned about my boys transitioning. They are still young, and I'm sure they will make friends.

It will be an interesting adventure.

BugaBoo - With you and your hubby being a "united force" so to speak, I'm sure you and your boys will handle the transition well. The boys will see you and your husband pulling together, etc. and it will not only show them how a partnership works, but will pull you all together (if that makes any sense <g>).

It will probably be easier for you and your husband to make new friends through your kids and their activities than it was for us - and kids always seem to make friends pretty easily. One of our granddaughters spent a weekend with us last year and we took her to the local park - she immediately hit it off with a couple of other kids and they were "best friends" <g>....When she comes to visit now, we still try to get the girls together for a little while.

Yes it will be an adventure for you and your family - and, IMO, that's the best way to look at it - a new exciting adventure! <g>

These kids out here are soo careless. They all have their Cadillac Escalades, Navigators, Tahoes, Mercedes, BMWs, etc...and they have no respect for the road or the drivers on them. How tragic...
Yes, I guess I am

That's so sad, but not surprising. I was a nervous wreck driving there, but feel my confidence coming back here. I still don't drive into Boston, but the local country roads and Rte 3 are not too scary. In Keene I guess you'd have Rte 101 to drive, which is really a windy country road to someone from SoCal.

Default Why Keene?

Suzet,
After finding that you've never been to New Hampshire, I have to ask what it is that drew you to that area vs. other parts of the state. There's alot to like about Keene, but I would imagine that it might feel somewhat isolated to someone who is used to such a different way of life. I mean, NH as a whole will be a big difference... Just wondering and thought I'd ask

WinterWonder is on a distinguished road
Hi, Suzette.

The best advice I can give you is to make as many trips to Keene as possible. We are in the same boat, moving to New England from NJ, and will be experiencing a completely different change of pace. We are also doing it because we want to, because we feel it is a better place to raise a family.

There is always apprehension when moving far away. If you can get get up there more and explore, it will help. Things will start to become familiar with every visit, and one is always more comfortable with what is familiar. :-)

As for the cold, Tara is right. Not everyone despises cold. I LOVE IT!! Hence, my screen name, WinterWonder... I find that cold air is absolutely invigorating. I am more alert, I feel better. It just feels...HEALTHY. Am I wrong, New Englanders? I myself could never live in Southern CA or FL. I would dreadfully miss the beloved season of winter, much too much.

Good Luck!
Winter Wonder

I moved to Vista CA almost 6 years ago from central NH. (My son went to college in Keene). At first I liked Ca and enjoyed all that southern california has to offer. (Yesterday I wnt over to the beach in Carlsbad and it was beautiful); after the first couple of years I began to miss New England and for the past year I long for it and have put our home on the market. As soon as we can sell (soon may not be the right word) we are moving to Maine.

I don't know if my remarks prove you will want to move back to what you know.....or what I thnk I meant when I started this....that is that it is not crazy to want to live in Keene NH. It is a beautiful town in a lovely area--you are pretty much on the corner of Western Mass (mohawk trail) and Vermont and NH--that is beautiful country. The college adds some culture oppurtunities and all 4 seasons are breath taking. I hope you follow your heart and find your hearts desire.

Keene isn't a bad area. Though its a bit away from things. If that's what you like Keene has a small town atmosphere, and has lots of outdoor activities.
its great country small town living, though only a couple hours from Boston ...Its kind of in the heart New England too convenient to both south or north New England.

Mount Monadnock is there, as well as Keene State College or is it a University now?

I am. Of course, I was also raised in a lot of smaller towns from age 7 until I left home. Coming back to CA was kind of a culture shock, and not a good one in the long run.

Its still Keene State College, and expanding daily!

Thats the one thing about Keene I have found the hardest. It is kinda out of the way of everything. If you like outdoor winter activities more power to ya!! I thought I did until I found out how cold it truly is here and then I about died laughing when there was finally enough snow to go skiing. I can't breath outside its so cold, let alone chug down a mountain on a pair of sticks!!! I did the ice skating but it was so cold and I fell and go wet and blah it was done.

But if you can find joy in that than oh man lol You are in heaven here I'm a city girl, although I thought the slower pace of life here in Keene would work for me nicely I've found I'm bored constantly. Unfortunatly Keene is out ofthe way and its the "city" so if you can't find it here then the surrounding towns surely ain't gonna have it at all. Boston doesn't seem far but with it being two hours away , it not really highway roads its like one way highway winding through mountains with drop offs and no street lights so I won't dare drive it at night....

I think you'll like Keene as its sooo much more quiet than SoCal and the pace is like 20303840375076 times more slow no doubt so if you're looking for a REALLY quiet life you're gonna find it here. I've just found that when the story of the year for 2007 was that the Mayor recieved a ticket for an illegal park job I've found TOO small of a town..
