Default Propane Heating Costs

I am currently in process of building a house in Southern NH. It will be approx 3100 sf with a forced air propane system. I will also have a cooktop and water heater running off the propane. Can anyone give me a best guess as to the cost per year for the propane? Thanks

There are too many variables for me to give you an estimate for your new home. However, what I can tell you is how much our LP cost are. Our home is 2350 square feet with up to date insulation and thermopane windows. Our hot air furnace operates close to 90% efficiency. We also use LP for our 40 gal hot water tank, heavy duty clothes dryer and kitchen stove with oven. Our costs are about $2400.00 per year but, we do burn 4 cords of wood to off set the heat bills. I believe the fire wood saves approximately $1200.00 per year or more on our heating bills. Hope this helps you out.

nope, too many variables. My house in Texas is 2460 sf, Trane forced air (probably close to 90% efficient too), stove/oven, 40 gal water heater, and 40k btu gas logs. I go through 250 gals of propane in 4 months during my winters.

After the first quick fill like that, I changed my heating behavior to put the furnace on 60 degrees and run only the gas logs. I would sometimes put on the central fan to more quickly distribute the heat through the house since the return air is in the same room as the gas logs. My refill rate dropped back to every 7 months of winter with that usage and the house was just as comfortable.
