Can anyone tell me anything about Littleton? Where do people work who live in that area? What is the range for rentals? Do they get a lot of snow there? Is it pretty remote? How are the roads in the winter? Any information anyone can give would be helpful. Thank you.

I can't help you too much in what I do because I don't live in Littleton ... yet. But I can certainly shed some light on the snowy North Country.
Here are some wintery averages I found ... 53 inches of snow ![]() ![]() ![]() 160 freezing days 20 days around zero This could be one of those Jeff Foxworthy statements ... You know you live in the North Country when driving in the winter is better because the potholes are filled in with snow. ![]() Sorry I really couldn't actually help, but had to post that bit of humor. ![]() |

Last winter we had days where we would get anywhere between 3 and 6 inches every couple of weeks, but didn't have any major snow until February and one more biggie in April, I think. The roads in and around town were fine. I joked with my husband that it seemed like as soon as the first snowflake fell, we heard plows coming. We never had a problem getting around, in fact moved during the blizzard in February with no problems with the moving truck and our vehicles. Remote? Depends on what you mean by remote. We do not have any shopping malls or major entertainment venues, but there are things to do in and around town all year long, we have a hospital and paid fire and police force. Work-wise, some people work in the town in the various locally owned stores, some in the chain stores (WalMart, Home Depot, Lowe's, Staples, TJ Max, etc.), the restaurants, hotels.....Some for the police and fire departments. A lot of people work in surrounding areas. There are plumbers, electricians, builders, landscapers, doctors, dentists, lawyers, an employment agency, carpenters, etc. A lot of people in town work for the hospital. There are two veterinarians in town, a kennel, a pet store. If you use the search option in this forum and search for Littleton, there are a lot of posts with information on the town, as well. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and if I can, I will answer them. My major gripe is that there is only one grocery store in town (there are 5 or 6 drug stores!) <g>. |

Windchimes ... in that one grocery store you are talking about, would you be able to tell me if there is a natural food section and/or if they have a fair amount of vegetarian selections and organic produce? Thank you bunches, you have been a great help on these posts.

Hi SkiChick - Thank you for your kind words!
The grocery store is Shaw's and it has a "Wild Harvest" section - here's a website to browse: wild harvest . There is also a health food store in town - the Health Rhino which has natural foods and organic produce. That store is on Main Street, but I don't think it has a website. Main Street is SUPPOSED to have a major renovation project starting (I can't remember when exactly), so if you get to Littleton and Main Street is torn apart, it's temporary! <g> I *think* it's going to be done in two stages, but I can't remember when it's supposed to start..... |

Just figured I'd add a few more things about Littleton - there are 5 or 6 banks in town, 1 credit union, the "requisite" Dunkin' Donuts, a Rent-A-Center, hardware store, Agway, a bunch of gas stations that have little "mini-mart" type stores, movie theater that has 2 screens (just had new seats installed which sound very comfy, but haven't been there since the installation), a party supply store, a Dollar Tree (everything really IS $1 or less), an art gallery, gristmill, Littleton Coin. I *believe* the Opera House is going to be restored. Then there are the various restaurants along Main Street and just outside of town. Two movie rental places. Bed and breakfasts, motels/hotel....and the bookstore, clothings stores, a jewelry store, a couple of Chinese restaurants and a Mexican restaurant.
All of these places as well as those mentioned in my previous note often will have a help wanted sign out. I have no idea what any of the places pay, although I suspect they are not high paying. There is also an employment agency. Littleton also has a radio station. Two car part stores, some car dealers, car repair shops, a "Radio Shack" equivalent, two (I think) cell phone stores, maybe three now, and a Time-Warner office, as well as a Social Security office. We also have a post office, a library, farmer's market that goes from May or June until September or October (I can never remember). I think I've about covered most of what's here in town now...at least until I think of something else <g> |

Windchimes03561,
Great job, I moved to Littleton in 2005, and I still don't know where all those places are. My daughter tells me I have to get out more offen. ivoryours |

ivoryours - I'd bet you do know where the places are, you just don't realize it
especially if you live in the town proper. We lived 5 miles out from town when we rented, so I wasn't "consciously" aware of things, but once we moved into the town, they became more obvious, if that makes any sense.I was actually amazed at all the things here when I started thinking about it and trying to put them all down. We've got quite a few things here and putting them all down made me realize just how many! ![]() I also forgot about Remeich (sp) Park, the gazebo there with the summer music, the playground, the playing field, and some kind of skating rink (not sure what that is, saw it there last winter when we took our granddaughter sledding on the hill, but the rink was closed at that time).....saw another ballfield in another area, too. I've also seen advertisements for an indoor golf thingie, but not sure where that is and heard somebody talking about a town pool, but again, have no idea where that is either, or if there is one or one is being planned ![]() Some of the places I "found" while we were driving around looking at houses that were for sale, some I just stumbled on while walking down Main Street. There's definitely more here than first meets the eye, so to speak! ![]() |

Windchime03561, I think your right about being in town, my daughter lives on Main Street and she knows alot of people, and knows all the eating places, stores, etc.. I live up Cottage St. I drive to Walmart, shaws the Healthy Rhino and go to the High school for meeting for my Autistic son. I try to get to the Farmers Market, when they are open, every other weekend. But other than that, I am at home, there is always something to do in the yard or around the house. I did find out last summer via one of the staff at Common Grounds, that the indoor golf course is at the bottom of my street. Just over the railroad tracks it sits in the back. They said it is like a computerized golf course. One thing I can say is Littleton is definitely is growing.
