Question Moultonborough vs. Alton?

Can anyone tell me a little about these two towns? How are the school systems? Which one would you prefer to live in, if either, and why? I saw a house I liked in Alton, but I think the schools are better in Moultonborough. I'm looking for a house with a couple of acres and I seem to be finding more options in Alton.

Thanks for any and all help!

Karen

I lived in Laconia for 24 years, and know both towns real well. I would definately endorse Alton, more conveiniences, better schools, much lower taxes, and easier access to other parts of the state.

Default Thanks for the replies!

We finally made it to New England after driving three days with 3 kids, a dog and a guinea pig in my car. While we're staying with my mom in MA, I got a chance to tour Moultonborough and Alton. I checked out the towns and the schools and I have to say Moultonborough just didn't feel right to us. The people in Alton seemed much more friendly and the school seems to offer a heck of a lot more activities for the kids. Looks like I'll be house hunting in Alton and looking for a short term rental to get us through until we find one. Any one know of any short term rentals available in Alton?

Good choice, frugalmomma. Alton is also closer to civilization as well. They even have a new major grocery store...previous to the building of this store, the nearest major grocery chain was about 25 minutes away.
YOu may want to look at this web site..there is a classified section that sometimes has year round or short term rental listings available.

I just noticed that this thread is a bit dated..you may have already found something??

The Lake Winnipesaukee Home Page

Good luck!
