im 19 and was raised in Belmont NH that is a great town with a great school... gilford and meredith are also good choices with good schools. tilton, northfield and sanbornton are very nice towns but the public schools are awful, but there is a good prep school in the area, tilton prep. If youd like to go further south try hampstead nh.

If you want to live in the closet thing to a city move to nashua or manchester. If you want to live in a town move to keene or hampton. Hampton is an awesome place to go in the summer. It's not even new hampshire, it's it own little state. It's too good to be part of new hampshire. Not that there is anything wrong with new hampshire. Theres lots of trees and lakes and nature crap, and thats probaly good for someone who wants to get away from the city. Just be prepared to be bored and southern nh is the idea place to live. Because you can live in a nice little small town, like fitzwilliam or wherever and be close to the big cities nashua, manchester, et cetra and at the same time be close to mass and boston. So you get the best of both worlds.

Default We used to live in Amherst

and they have a good middle school and good high school. The population of the town was about 10,000 when we moved away in 2004.

Personally, I prefer Mont Vernon - a fairly small town with a lovely country setting over Amherst, which is kind of spread out and more heavily populated. Another big plus is that children from Mont Vernon go to Souhegan High School (in Amherst). We had three children attend Souhegan and we were quite pleased with their education.

Another nice thing about the Amherst/Mont Vernon/Milford/New Boston area is the short hop to 101A strip. You have the feeling of truly being "in the sticks" but shopping, commute to work, etc is really a short hop away. Any of these towns are definitely worth considering, but as wurd2word noted, Mont Vernon kids will go to Souhegan's excellent HS.
