It's Live Free or Die, not live for Free and then Die. Sounds like Mass is the place for you. What you make up for in low rent in Berlin you will pay hard for winter's fuel and there is no work up there.

NH is not a good place to run out of money as we haven't got a good welfare system like Mass does.
