I thought I would post this for anyone who would like to move to Manchester, NH from out of state. I've basically outlined all of the different areas in Manchester and my opinions about good areas and bad areas. It's interactive. Just click on the area and a box should pop up with the label and a very general piece of information.

Didn't work with my browser. Oh, well.

(I'm curious how you determined "good" and "bad" areas? Crime rates? Poverty/wealth demographics? Race?)

I hate using statistics or demographics; I feel that they don't accurately represent the areas. I've lived in Manchester (in almost all of the areas) for over 20 years, and I use my personal experiences to determine the good and bad areas. Personally, I look to safety as the number one aspect. How many times did I see police dispatched to an area? How safe do I feel if I am walking, alone at night? How noisy does it get during the day and at night? What are the children in the area like (personality)? Can I leave my door unlocked to run down to the corner store? Are there a lot of disturbances (fights, screaming matches, etc)? Things like that. These are the things I would want to know if I were moving to an unfamiliar area.

I also look at accessibility. How far away are basic needs (food, department stores, banks, etc)? What is the traffic like? How close to the fire station am I? Where is the nearest hospital?

I was a delivery dispatcher and driver for 8 years, so I got a feel for the different sections of town. A lot of it is also common knowledge and terminology that most people in Manchester have (ie: the combat zone, North end, East side, Pinardville, etc.)

I'll try to get a link to a jpg for you.

I did the best I could with Photoshop. The interactive is much better because you can actually look up addresses.
