Well, you can only go so long. Whats NH like 30 days?
So if you have california plates, and the cop sees you driving by with tinted windows, he will look at your plates and say to himself, ok, this guy is ok and not do anything.
You drive by that same cop 30 days later, he sees your tinted windows and california plates, he thinks to himself, this guy is living here. So now he tickets you for not paying registration, inspection, tinted windows, maybe speeding. Even worse if you had a drink and its late. You'll be getting a DUI too.
In NH is very easy for the same cop to spot you twice. Its a small state with small towns.
You can go for it, and cross your fingers. I'm not saying you wont get busted. But its likely you will. Out of state plates always get a second look.

I just got my car registered and inspected for the first time in NH a couple of weeks ago. I think you have 60 days once you establish residency in the state to convert.
When I received my plates they informed me I had 10 days to get it inspected.
I would just remove the tint and get it inspected. It's not worth taking a chance on.

There is no grandfather clause in NH? This seems like a strange law for a state that has the creed "Live free or die"...Doesn't seem like you have to worry about gangsters and drive by shooting!
I'm tempted to leave the tinting on and just not get an inspection. So far have not had any issues...knock on wood.
Any thoughts? Anyone else face this? I can google the best way to remove it myself if I have to...
Thanks!

How about you follow the law in NH or go back where you came from.....

Gee why didn't i think of just calling them to ask. yes it's just as easy to call up and ask but isn't this what the forums are all about? Making conversation on a specific topic and also asking people first hand who might have dealt with a similar situation? That would defeat the purpose of asking any other question on the forums then. Basically everyone should just call the Chamber of Commerce then to find their answers of they want to find out on a specific area like what kind of jobs are available, how many schools there are, what's the crime like etc....?? If you don't wish to answer the question, why respond at all?

Danielle, you're considered a resident in one state or the other. Simple tests would be where is your drivers license issued from? Where do you vote? What's your address according to IRS? I'd contact DMV in Concord for definite answers: 603-271-2251 There are LOTS of snowbirds in NH, I would imagine the state that has the best tax laws, less $$ for registration, insurance etc. is the one they'd chose to be their PERMANENT address. Or it may have to do with how many days of the year you spend in each location...
This from the RMV-NH: Side windows to the rear of the driver and passenger can be tinted. Rear window can be tinted, if equipped with a passenger outside mirror. The light transmission of the after market tinted windows shall not be less than 35%

Geeesh, I only hope that you were having a bad day when you posted this. As Dannielle said, these forums are for discussions. If you have nothing to contribute but rude drivel, then why post at all?
And for the others who posted some great input (you had me convinced to remove it!), I already had it removed this past weekend and got the car inspected (they said I had 30 days where to inspection cost would cover the sticker).
Thanks for the help.

NH residents, lets put an end to the silly tint laws.
To any and all NH residents. I am going to look into repealing the silly NH tint laws.I have emailed the NH state Govt.I am looking at the requirements to qualify to be accepted as a signature, and the amount of signature required in order for the legislature to accept this repeal. In my obseravtion. I believe the Majority of NH residents feel the current laws are biased, and an infringement of our rights. As the laws stands,an officer can pull you over at their discretion because he/she spots tint on your vehicle. What happened to live free or die? The citizens of NH never had a say in the current Tint laws. I am asking for any advice, comments, and critisism on this matter.

Well, I would certainly be interested in signing a petition to repeal the law (altho I removed my tint).
I am very curious as to the motivation behind this law and how it came to be law. I agree it seems like a strange law for NH to implement. Usually it is for states with crime issues where the police want protection, but I don't think NH fits that profile. Then you throw in the "live free or die" moniker and it really gets my curiosity engaged.
I'd be interested to hear the roots behind this law in NH.
