This thread came up on the Mass board... I thought I was gonna get roasted... I don't hunt, but the hunters that I know are are very conservative, use what they take in a given year, and above all, take only a clean shot. They generally are "close to the land" in that they also farm, and must sometimes protect their animals from predators... I'm sure there are idiots out there who hunt at night, out of season, etc. but like with most things in life there is a right way and a wrong way.... and of course the knuckleheads are the ones who end up in the papers...

Fresh meat is healthier (no steroids, antibiotics, no factory farms, etc.) Ever read Fast Food Nation? You might stop eating meat from the supermarket, or want to anyway...

I hunt , as do most of my friends. I have never not eaten what I have killed or heard of anybody not eating their kill. Hunting is not just the killing of an animal. It's the comraderie of deer camp ,its the experiance of doing what your father did and his father before him and his father before him. I hunted with the same group of guys since I was 12 . I have friends from hunting for over 50 years, we know each others whole lifes story. Their loves and losses , their triumphs and defeats, everything. I take offence with people who say hunters are just drunkin fools.I take hunting very seriously and would never consider taking alchohol . It's a few who ruin it for others and giving non-hunters fuel to p&m about how bad hunting is . Sorry, if you can't understand the whole aspect of hunting but just seems like the thing to do here in the north country.

I read just the other day that some people shot and killed a mother moose and it's baby up in Berlin and just left it them to die. That kind of "hunting" is what i'm talking about. I just hate how people can do that.

Colebrook... i feel i should know you or you would know my family. My brother lived in Errol for a long time on acres pond and his ex-wife has been in Colebrook for a while now. Very small friendly communities where everyone kind of knew each other.

I agree with Colebrook. I take hunting very seriously. It is more about the experience of hunting, the comradere of being out with good friends and family. It drives me nuts hearing about idiots in the woods. They are the ones that are in the headlines, the papers should talk about those of us that obey the laws and enjoy every hunt whether we harvest game or not. I love to be out there in the wild!

Default Hunting-1 Arm

I lost my arm some years ago. I learned to hunt that way. I find i can focus on the deer better, and make a clean shot. Hopfully-one shot-one kill.

I went hunting once since I got back from 'Nam 41 years ago. Killing the racoon felt more like an execution than a hunt. Besides the guys I was with were dangerous fools that would as likely have shot me as anything else. I guess I just don't want to hunt anymore. I keep my shooting to a range.

I think most coon hunting up there was for fur more than the meat.I did a lot of coon hunting up there in the early 70's.It was a fun way for a young guy to make a good chunk of extra change.Fur hasent been worth anything for years. Raccoon seems to be popular table fare down here with certain people. I do nuisance wildlife trapping for a living and am always asked if i have any extra raccoons. There have been a few cases of rabies reported but it doesen't seem to bother anyone.

That's not hunting any more than robbing a bank is akin to making a withdrawal..

Default Hunting Land

I saw your quote about your family doing alot of hunting. We just moved to southern NH, and my husband is a big hunter, and I'm hoping to find some land that he could hunt on to keep him happy Any suggestions on how to find land for hunting? He has been searching for leases in northern NH or even closer to southern NH (which is the way he came across land in MN when we lived there), but has been unsuccessful so far....

Thanks!
