Snow day!!
I couldn't resist! It's sled dog training time, and I just know these two Texas born and raised Poochies will reign in the Fluff!!
Of course, after they figure out what the heck it is.
Sandi is the momma dog-retriever mix. Sunshine is the lab looking poochie, one of Sandi's 11 pups that we rescued. She was sure her stick she buried last night was still under the frozen tundra, but where oh where?? She engaged in the assistance of Sandi, and together they figured out what the white stuff was all about.
Enjoy!

It is just beautiful outside. I hope everyone has a safe day, and please enjoy this wonderful wintry scenery just in time for the holidays. For those who don't have the white stuff, you're welcome to come over and drink hot chocolate for sledding today!
Season's Greetings to all of my friends at CDF!

You got a lot of snow there tonight, or last night, I guess it is morning there . Well enjoy playing in the snow today. We might get "clouds" later in the week ..lol. Have a great day.

Great pics Kat - Our dog loves the snow, too - especially the first one - she has to go out, dig in it, lift it with her nose and just run around like a "wild person." <g>

These were taken just an hour ago, right at sunrise. So it's still dark. I tried to sled, but sunshine wanted to pull the sled back up the hill with me on it, she didn't want me to go down in it, she really freaked out. So I put the sled back and brought her in, now she's snoring. LOL I believe its a stick they dug up from under the snow. It looks like about 6 inches of snow so far and still falling. Can't wait to go out with hubby and play today with the dogs. It should be an adventure. Can't wait for you to come join us Suzet, the laughter and joy is waiting for you.
Dare: why do they roll around and dig their noses in it? do they do that each time? or just the first snow they get?

Kat - I have no idea why they do what they do in the snow - I've had four dogs through my life and every one of them has done it! It's always with the first snow - maybe trying to figure out what that stuff is? After that, it has depended on their mood - although it seems the deeper it is, the more they do it - maybe trying to get to whatever they smell on the ground under the snow?
A word of caution on the sticks - When we first moved here, our dog LOVED to play with sticks she found outside - she would hold it in her mouth and prance around, sometimes try to chew on it - we thought we took the sticks away before she really got into them. Unfortunately she had splintered one before we got to her and it got lodged in the top of her mouth. Our first meeting with our vet was because she developed an abscess up there (we had an appointment with the vet for the following week for her check up and shots, etc.). The vet told us they see that with a lot of dogs, so watch your furbabies with the sticks, especially if they decide they want to chew on them!
