Where you from?
Anchorage, AK (originally). I’m currently residing in Hell (otherwise known as the Virginia suburbs of DC)

Do you like NH?
Okay, so I’ve never been. However, I’ve been to VT once (Killington) and loved it. I figure the two states while different, are similar geographically and in terms of folks being courteous. I turned down a job opportunity in central VT last fall – the timing was off. Rats!

Are you a native?
Native Alaskan….LOL

What gets your goat about NH?
I can’t really say much other than I hope most of you are smart enough to know all those politicians that keep coming to visit are only using you. I have a perverted sense of politics…that’s what happens when you live inside the Beltway (large multi-lane hwy that circles DC. It is the basis of the phrase "inside the Beltway", used when referring to issues dealing with American government and politics.

What you like best about NH?
I like the idea that I could live there and enjoy all four seasons (with a healthy dose of winter and mild summers), get away from people who think undeveloped land is only good for developing, see more than 5 miles on a clear day because the air is clean, be in the woods in less than 30 min., avoid commuting more than 1 hour to you job that is less than 13 miles away, not worry about a drive-by shooting and see real wildlife (as apposed to some poor animal that’s been released for a paid hunt).

What you do, where you live, any kids, favorite sports team, favorite sport, hobbies, where you would hate to live, worst place you ever lived, best film (movie) basically anything for a chit chat?
I work for a large public University in Northern VA and live in the area as well. I like my job – it allows me time to enjoy the remaining 16 hours in the day. I’m single with no kids and clearly, am a walking contradiction to the widely held notion that living in an urban area guarantees at least one meaningful adult relationship. I Don’t have a favorite sports team but LOVE figure skating, anything to do with animals, carpentry, leaf-peeping, sleeping and anything outdoors. I think I’d enjoy 4-H or other farming related endeavors. I would HATE to live in a place that’s hot and humid (if it gets above 82 in the summer, its too hot). The worst pace I’ve lived was West Palm Beach, FL. THAT was Hell, level 10 (I’m in Hell, level 5) Best film…I don’t watch much but always liked Patriot Games.

Woodworking seems to be pretty common, too.

Boo - my stepdaughter has a scrapbooking business - she does beautiful work and enjoys it immensely - she lives in Maine with her family...I'm a people watcher too - and love to make up little stories about various people I see <g>

Appreciation for the beauty of the state also seems to prevail as well as "independence."

I have no idea why I posted this, just seems interesting <g>
DareToDream: Maybe you posted because it's off-topic. tee hee hee

That's great your stepdaughter has made a business out of doing something creative & that she enjoys. I've spent too many years in an office paper pushing, so someday I'd like to turn my creativity into a career & get paid for it too. I've always been an observer & people watching is wonderful...I'd like to hear some of your stories, bet they're great!

SkiChick: I'd love to see your photos...I don't think it'd be a problem to post your website, maybe Suzet can tell us...oh Moderator Is it ok? Maybe you can DM me if it's not allowed.

bryfry: I agree with Valerie, beautiful log home...sitting on that porch in a rocker & just gazing the day away! Of course, if it's all snowy then being inside with a warm beverage would be nice.

btw, I need a proof reader...my previous post says I don't want to live in the dessert...well I'd love to live in a dessert, chocolate please, now I wouldn't want to live in the desert! It seems I left a few letters out of quintessential too...hmmm, did I mention I was a little persnickity? Need to learn to let things go.

All the best & hope everyone is staying warm in New England...it's about 63 today in Cali & I'm just thankful it's not too hot.

First, no deal!!

Yeah, I've been to the Mass board and I poke around the political and automotive forums as well. It's a whole lot of blah, blah, blah. At least I can relate to the car people more.

Thanks, Val!! It was two years of very hard work. We did it on and off, mostly on weekends. It was fun to put the thing together. It's like a giant Lincoln Log kit!! The hardest part was clearing the lot. There was a ton of trees. We have plenty of firewood for the woodstove and the fireplace!! We did all the work ourselves except for the foundation and digging the well. It helps having plumbing, heating and electrical contractors in the family!!
It was the Mansfield model on the web site.

ha ha brillaint another salfordian are you in NH too, I get a kick that I will be living near manchester NH when I am from manchester england, brilliant

true what your misses says

when I talk they think I'm from scotland, ireland south africa, australia when I say England they say you don't sound like it to which I reply well we all don't talk like joan collins or the queen you know

many think we have bowler hats, unbrellas and pin striped suits those what think that would certainly get a right shock coming to salford

salford makes southie in boston or dorchester look right dead posh

I bet your misses knows many places I know, we ended up moving out to little hulton for a few years before I moved over here, ask your mrs if she knows of that place, and tell us her reaction on the face please mate

if people had seen little hulton and salford not the quays area then they'd know why I want me kids raising over here, my oldest still has a bit of an accent though the younger ones have not especially me daughter who has not a southern accent saying yall and all that
what a messed up family we are with accent as me misses is from quincy massachusetts who has no desire ever to live there

Default Salford

Ahh...we're not in NH (I keep planning for the day we will be able to move up there).

We're in NJ now...actually in a small town with a fairly large contingent of English expatriates (my wife was invited to a Guy Fawkes night bonfire in town last year).

Asked my wife about Little Hulton (she was quite interested to find out that I located another Salford native )...she doesn't know it though. Asked me to ask you if you know the Salford 7 (Higher Broughton) area (that is where she grew up)..on King Street near Leicester Rd and Bury New Rd.

My brother-in-law lives in Baguley near Hale.

She's not been back since 1998...we went to her mum's last year...in Chester...what a beautiful city...such history...we took a trip into Wales and visited Conwy. But she's not been back to Manchester since 1998...we've heard its changed a lot...much of it for the better from we've heard...my wife tells me that the quays was just being developed when she left.

Yeah...we have 3 small sprogs (as my wife calls them)...7, 6 and 4...I know my wife wouldn't ever raise them where you guys grew up (although, to me, there must be something to be said for an environment that makes a girl as tough as my wife

BTW...my wife says you sound very Mancunian in your email
