23 lbs???
I cannot get over this! Are y'all really saying that a cat weighs 23 pounds? How do you pick it up? That must be a huge cat! I'm really not trying to be rude, but I don't think we have that kind of cat down here in Louisiana! I mean, you could put both of my doxies together on the scale and the cat would still win! Just out of curiousity, are all cats up there that big or just a certain type? If the cats are like their people (meaning the people are not skinny minnies) I may fit in just fine as I definitely have a little meat on my bones!

My mother-in-law's cat weighed 24 pounds...unfortunately, she recently died of organ failure due to her excessive weight. I'll try to find a pic to post.
All I know is that my cat weighs about 12 or 14 pounds and when he jumps in your lap or onto your chest (you know how cats luv to sit on your heart!), you nearly die!

I just re-read my post...what I meant to say is I'll try to find a pic to post of Minnie (that was her name!!! ) when she was alive & well. It kinda sounded like I was saying I was going to post a pic of her...well...OK, never mind.

LACarole, a 23 pound cat is certainly not the norm, not even for the larger breeds, but some breeds of cat can get really BIG. Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest Cats come to mind first--both of them are larger than average, heavier-boned and long limbed cats, luckily both are very friendly and outgoing cats, neither ornery nor timid. As a former vet. tech, my back will tell you that yes, there are cats out there that weigh 23 lbs and more!

Whoa!
Wow! I am probably just out of shape... okay, i'm definitely out of shape, but my dogs love to sit on my chest when i'm on the couch and kind of leaning back, but i'm not sure i could handle 23 or more pounds on top of me and still breathe! That is a big cat!!! Honestly though, i guess the only cats i really see around here are strays and they are all pretty skinny. i definitely don't get out enough! How sad is that? i'm just too sheltered or too much of a homebody, i guess! I would love to see pictures, though, newhampshire girl. And JFR, i saw your earlier pic when all of your cats were lined up eating, but i couldn't tell from that how big they were, just that they got bigger as you went down the line Sometimes people down here look at me like i'm crazy because i love my dogs so much that they are like my kids - i take them in the car with me whenever either me or my husband or my daughter can stay with them or none of us has to get out and i put sweaters on them, especially the little one because she is thin and gets cold in our a/c, and i talk to them and whenever i can i foster others who need special care, etc., so it is really nice to talk to other people who also love their pets like i do! Big doxie kisses to all of y'all tonight!

here kitty kitty
hey lacarole, we talk to our cat's like their kids too...lol.. we also did the fostering thing . but everytime we did DW wanted to keep them when it was time too bring them back. it's hard because you get so attached to them that you don't want to bring them back. we have six now with our latest edition is tigger which is about 8 or 9 weeks old. our oldest is 9years the next are 7, the next two are 5 and the next is 3years. 4 years ago when we spent the winter in florida and georgia we had four cat's and they traveled with us. we had a 30 foot travel trailer and they stayed in there while we traveled. they enjoyed it, everytime we stopped the we'er laying on the beds or the couch. we weren't sure if they would like it or not. but we were suprised that they we're so relaxed.

My little babby girl (my cat) is acting like she has another UTI .
poor baby She gets so scared at the vet. I hate bringing her there.
The vet is wanting to put her on this food that is about $50's for a 8lb bag. With three cats who eat everything I cant afford that.
