Rochester
Anyone know anything about Rochester, NH? My Husband is going to be working in Portsmouth and our realtor showed us some condo's in Rochester today. The prices are very reasonable but wondering if it's way out of the way of everything. How would the commute be each day? Are the schools systems good? Any info. anyone has on this area or another area close by would be great!
Thanks!

Rochester is a seriously under rated community. It has everything! I would compare it to what Manchester was 30 years ago. Opera house, theater, a couple of nightclubs and all the big chain stores exist. There are multiple grocery stores as well and it's fairly easy to get around town.
I love Rochester and it's only 1/2 hour from Portsmouth - the quickest way is route 16 but the tolls have gone up so it's roughly $6. round trip daily.
hope you check it out! it's very nice IMO and improving daily. Not everyone is out to take hostages! LOL

Hi Sir or Madam,
I have lived on the Seacoast for most of my life (childhood and adult). Until this day, I have yet to ever really come across a section or city that is undesirable. Certainly some towns have their place more than others, but overall this is such an excellent area of the country to live and raise a family in.
Rochester has been named one of the best places to invest in NH. There are a lot of opportunities for the city as it become more of a white collar place.
The surrounding towns (such as Farmington are also great) usually have mostly single family homes and very few apartments. So if you're searching for family-life, that may be a consideration.
Many conveniances are located right in Rochester.. Home Depot, Dunkin Doughnuts, Walmart.. Lilac Mall. So not everything is a trip to Portsmouth.
The commute to Portsmouth is not too bad. However at rush hour the traffic usually gets congested at the Sullivan Bridge in Dover Point in the direction of flow.

THE BAD:
Rochester has some of the highest property taxes in the state. Check property taxes very carefully before you buy. Check sewer and water as well. You might not be able to afford them.
Rochester schools are very big and new, but I've heard grumblings about the quality of education. A large number of people who live in that area are on public assistance. Welfare, disability, etc. Not being mean but that group of people tends to have more problem kids, etc.
When the NH real estate market dips, Rochester will not weather it well.
Rochester police are always very busy. Check recent police records before you move.
My advice: Stay clear from Rochester and Somersworth.

Anythign new going on in Rochester. Was lookingtomaybe relocate with my wofe and kids and get away from the city. Looks liek a nice small town that is safe and friendly. I also see that the local cinema is up for sale. Is this a good place to live and work! What can you tell me about the theatre woudl it be a good investment for this town or is there another cinema people are goign to instead. Maybe the reason it shut down?
