I almost hit one here in Keene on RT 12... ran right out in front of me then stopped dead middle of the street... They're as smart as a box of rocks.. They shouldn't even be hunted.. its like an unfair advantage, you can walk right up to em, stick the gun in their face and they'll stare at ya..

yes - I'm reminded of a cow when I see them. They appear to be gentle. I had one show up at my house in Derry years ago. The kids were waiting for the schoolbus at the end of the driveway and the moose walked right by them without paying any attention to them at all.
I haven't seen one in years ...... the last time I saw one was off the Kangamangus (sp?) highway. I was taking pictures of the foliage and he/she was almost totally submerged in water in a pond and stood up as I got near. I'm not sure who was more surprised, me or him. |

Lancaster would be a good area too. My sister actually got hit by one on her way home from working in Lancaster. They are not very smart animals and 9/10 times they hit you, you don't hit them. Also if you want to go further north to Milan and errol your almost guaranteed to see some. They used to have tour bus rides in the early evenings with guarantees to see one or your ride was free.

On Rt.26 heading west , just past Dixville Notch , on the road to Errol. They seem to be there a lot. Also on Rt.16 from Errol to Berlin in the 13 mile wood area. They are as dumb as a bucket full of rocks and will step out right in front of you.

Hope you get your moose sighting, just a word of caution, if you do come across some, they have been know to charge and can hurt you. When you see one, you'll be fascinated as to how big and tall they are. Quite a thrill, good luck.
