The town could only afford one charger... I think their money could have been spend elsewhere. The officers need tasers, badly and all they can say is we can't afford them.. Yet they buy a charger? Priorities are non existant I suppose. The chargers are useless up here, I mean how fast are people really getting? My husbands "highspeed" chase never got above 40 mph.. The roads aren't straight and they're slick.. Its honestly a waste of money.. But its nice to see they're finally catching up with the times. They're still doing paper clock in sheets and manual fingerprinting.. I'd say the dept is 10 years behind times easily but there's no enough crime to warrent even updating anything here anyways. The PD isn't the only place, the hospital isn't updated either, I was told Dartmouth was one of the best hospitals around. They don't even offer epidurals for pregnant women. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. They're "thinking" of implimenting them as a trial run in the summer/autumn of 08 ... Yet Keene can put in a rotary every 100 feet cause they're more worried about being called the rotary capital or whatever cause Boston took away their pumpkin capital title. I dunno where the tax payers money goes here in town but its not really going to the right places if you ask me...
Also for a town so intent on "saving the planet" etc they sure don't promote recycling. You have to pay to recyle so whats the point? Just more money out the door..

I realize this is off the topic of global warming, etc....but for the sake of "reliable info" for someone who may be reading:
Tara - not sure where you got your info on the above, but according to their website in the Obstetrical section, it states:
>>Pain medication in labor
Depending on whether you have complications—and what you and your team determine is best for you— you may opt to manage pain with an epidural or IV medications.>>
Full info is here: DHMC | Obstetrics: Giving Birth at DHMC | Normal Labor & Delivery

my info came right from my ob/gyn at Dartmouth.. One of the PD'S wives just had a baby about 3 weeks ago and could not get an epidural. To say she was pissed is to say the ocean is damp. She left and went to Jacksonville with the baby she's waiting for her husband one of the offiers to join her. I was in there just 2 weeks ago when I got this info

Florida would me more suited for you than New Hampshire Tarastomgirl! Enjoy the Gold Cost! New Hampshire is just not your kind of place.

It could be that she tried to "tough it out" and make it through labor without any pain meds, then when things got tough, it was too late. As my OB nurse told me about 16 years ago "That window of opportunity has closed". NOT what I wanted to hear, but there was nothing I could do--once you pass "the point of know return" it could put the baby at risk to have an epidural... Telling a laboring woman she can't have pain meds is cruel and unusual punishment IMO, but it is what it is...

Every taxpayer can visit city/town hall to see town budget, and should especially if they are municipal employees. I'm going to assume that Keene has a yearly "town meeting" where the budget is discussed and various projects are approved or not... Being somewhat of a "college town" I'm sure there's a high percentage of students and transients/temporary residents that don't care enough to get involved and vote on a budget.....

Those who complain usually like more Taxes
New Hampshire's state Motto is: "Live Free or Die". That is, what for 100's of years, has been the essence of the character of a New Hampshire resident, do it on your own, I won't bother you and keep the government as far away as possible. Those who complain about lack of services, whether they be medical, roads or schools or even the crazy ones who ar e so fixated upon making New Hampshire citizens pay a Global Warming Tax usually would be better suited to live in states like Mass, NY or CA where all these taxes seem to have no problem.
For example Tarastomsgirl would not like living in New Hampshire because of the lack of many social programs she is used to in Florida and the rmcewom would also be better off in Mass or NY so to enjoy the more euro-socialist mind set..
New Hampshire is for those with a true "Live Free or Die" Spirit and I would hope those who have lived here for many years would do everything to preserve that spirit!

See the thing is you can't mention one bad thing about NH cause of the thats the way its always been and always will be cause we don't want to update with the times..
There is nothing about NH that is live free or die.. More like Live Taxed and die without any services from your tax. Just because you don't HAVE to wear your seatbelt in your car is not about living free, its stupid and its gonna lead to the second half of your motto .. die...
If people had mentioned more stuff about NH other than oh the beautiful mountains and "nice" people I would have decided otherwise. I did a lot of homework before moving here, but none of it could have prepared me for what its like. I think its good for people who are considering a move to hear that no its not all about the scenery, the scenery is nice when you visit, the snow is nice but gets old, the roads are in horrible condition with huge pot holes and ruin your car with the sand and salt and slush. Some times change is good and I'm begining to see that a lot of NH is stuck more or less with updating and quite frankly the people don't want to update and I think thats what keeps a lot of the outsiders away and they like it that way. I mean I can't live in any surrounding towns outside of Keene cause I can't get internet or even cable! What the heck!
People in NH are taxed to death yet when you hear tax free state and think ohh its cheaper.. WRONG its more expensive ,there's tax they add it to the price.. There's income tax, view tax, tax on your kids for sending them to different school zones You register your car you pay state AND city tax on them. Its WAY more expensive to live in NH but the fact of the matter is I think a lot of the people up here have never left NH some never left their own towns and have no clue about the outside world other than what they see on their tv. Up here kids spray paint on a wall and its like *gasp* there's gangs in town! Oh my! Sorry but they're very racist up here and like that it is primarily a white state. They keep tabs on the blacks and asians and mexicans in town BELIEVE me they do its sickening what they say about them
Tax payers money is going towards a swat team in town.. All of 10 people big that hasn't been called out in 10 years, yet they like to brag how they train a lot.. Yeah who's paying for all that amo they're using? What in gods name does a town like Keene have any business having a swat team for other than wasting the budget? Keene is considered a "city" in NH and its TINY! Keene could easily fit in just my old neighborhood. The entire chesire county could fit in just downtown. Manchester is smaller than where I moved from and I didn't even move from a city.. Just a town. They have ONE k-9 guy here.... ONE! Its ludicris and I've really come to realize that they're stuck in their own world! The thing with small towns is they know everyone, and they only hire within, we went to Fla last week my husband said for personal reasons. They wouldn't give him the time off till he told them exactly what the "personal" reasons were.My husband said he didn't need everyone at the PD knowing why he was going and to know his business, they then had the nerve of asking WHY doesn't he want everyone knowing.. Why is becuase they're nosey as hell here and they have to know ever aspect of your life in these small towns and godforid they're on the outside cause rumors fly like birds going south!
My husbands captain brags about how he never left Keene for the first 30 years of his life!! No wonder there isn't any updating going on with people like that they dont' even know whats out there, and its people like that that fear outsiders coming in with new info and technology to better places like here and they totally shun it and the people. A conversation was brought up the other day at the PD about why they think more cops are killed in the south and out west, one depties reply , who once again never left the town was , " The cops down south are just plain stupid and don't know what their doing" This coming from a cop who weeks earlier asked my husband why people use bongs and pipes to smoke weed, how to tell if they nabbed someone with good weed and what shrooms are cause he's never heard of them. I'm sure he's never delt with real crime like human smuggling, drug lords or murders. Perhaps the correct answer was there are more people hence more crime. I read articles in the paper that the town is going down hill cause the mayor got a parking ticket, or someone broke a window in a car and its laughable to say the least they have NO idea what real crime is, human smuggling, child abductions, murders etc
Yes some of us are better off in other states like myself and rmcewan.. This state drives me nuts its so backwards in its thinking imo its such small town minds with such old ways of thinking that the rest of us are 10 years ahead. They just implimented shift work at the PD , they were doing rotating shifts, which PD's around the country stopped doing probably about 30 years ago Our neighbors had warned us (they're from out of state) that when you're hear a while you'll start to feel like you're one step ahead and I laughed. Sad how it came true... I'm sure I'll be hated for writing all this but not everything about NH is great.. Tax payers money should go to things like picking up trash and recycling cause I could give two s***s about another rotary going in so we can have the titled of rotary city. My husband doesn't risk his life for that stupid superficial crap. GAH I'm over it! I'm gone....

Some Posts are like Internal Revenue Service Code
Tarastomsgirl, you just proved my point, as your post almost has as many words and sections in it as would one part of the IRS Code. For you to validate your reasoning in New Hampshire would require many more with a euro-socialist mind set to move here. So far that is not the case but it well could happen. I certainly hope not! That is one of the most appealing aspect of New Hampshire for me and many others. The lack of so many obsessive compulsive rules and regulations. Other states are more suited for that.
I just wanted to point out that there are states that would suit your needs more so than New Hampshire. Government Services are so much more prolific in Mass and NY and yes even your Florida.
