Fire Fighters, Police, Roads and Schools all are vital services. Everything else, in my opinion, is a luxury. Those 4 services need to be fully funded before anything else is even thought of. So many townships have subrogated these services for non essentials like parks, hiking trails, city hall construction, advertising, administrative and so on. Priorities need to be redefined soon or you may have things like Global Warming initiatives and expensive solar or wind energy programs that will cut into these vital services.

What services, Tara, do NH people pay dearly for that are *not* paid for in other states? And which other states are we talking about?

Global warming is happenning
To Nicolem: about global warming -you write:
"Global warming is bunk. The earth and our weather is in a cyclical pattern. If you study the real historical patterns you will see we go through warm cycles and cold cycles."
For your information:these cycles determined by the periodic variations of Earth's orbit around the Sun- it is more oval, so sometimes we are closer, sometimes (and I mean hundred of thousands of years) farther from the sun. The problem NOW is, that we suppose to be in a COOLING OFF period, according to geological findings and mathematical calculations
Sorry for the bad news

[quote=CometVoyager;2808294]"The actual most recent spike in the troposphere's temperature occurred before 1940 and since then it has not been so significant as was the temperature increase after 1770 or 1880. Historical records show there have been many more warmer times than we have today. The Medieval Maximum from 800-1200AD for one (when the Vikings were in Greenland and Iceland and during the the reign of Egypt. As far as I know there were no internal combustion engines then. But that may not be true, as we could have been visited by space aliens.
The Earth had a mini ice age as recent as from 1410 -1720 also known as the Maunder Minimum. There is absolutely no scientific correlation having CO2 (which is part of the carbon cycle) produced by humans having an affect upon our troposphere's temperature increase, as all scientific records reveal that temperature will increase years before you see a CO2 increase. Further, if anything we have been depleting the Earth's CO2 life form production as per our Greedy Free For All with regards to Ocean Trawling and other Animal and Plant Extinctions. Also the CO2 molecule does not retain heat very well and has a very short lived half life within our troposphere. CO2 represents approx .03% of our troposphere as well."
Cometvoyager,
Most scientists agree , that decreased sun activity and massive volcano eruptions of that period ( huge amounts of ash in the atmosphere) was main cause of "mini ice-age" (they took ice samples from Arctic as deep as they could reach and carbon dated them to determine that)

Which Volcanic eruptions were they? Looks like we are soon in store for some more eruptions!

Global Warming
Global warming is mostly human caused.
Never in the history of geologic time has the earth warmed at such a fast rate as in the last 150 years, since the industrial revolution. It is a combination of natural factors yes, but recently is has been escalated by man made carbon dioxide which has melted the ice caps almost half way now much faster than originally predicted. We are DESTROYING our environment, wildlife habitat and wild lans! And the only planet we have! WAKE UP PEOPLE. We need to realize that HUMANS are the main cause of this and we need to protect our planet and stop treating it as a wastebasket. We need renewable energy and for people to stop driving Hummers and SUVs that pollute and diesel busses and trucks and aircraft. We need renewable energy NOW PEOPLE not 100 years from now. Global Warming TAXES should be in place for companies and cities/towns who refuse to change over to cleaner energy and recycle more etc.
We need a cleaner and greener planet and we need to change people's attitudes on the subject.

Some Facts about Global Warming
Dreamworks is very frustrated and used this board inappropriately. I understand his frustration. Global Climate Change is a frightening issue and reading some of these posts is distressing.
There is a report done by the Union of Concerned Scientists about global climate change and how it will affect New Hampshire. The summary is only 6 pages long, so please take a look. If you have questions, you can go to the UCS website. They list all the reports to back up this summary.
This has been a cold snowy winter, so many of you are thinking that global warming isn't happening. Ask yourself why there is no summer ice in the Arctic; why the glaciers around the world are disappearing; why the oceans are heating up and acidifying; why are scientists concerned about the Greenland Ice Sheet; why are the polar bears threatened with extinction? Then think about computing your carbon footprint and decide whether you want to change your behavior to make a difference.
Keene NH is a model for other cities around the country. All New Hampshire residents should be proud of their actions. If the US doesn't make changes to reduce the amount of CO2 put into our atmosphere, the climate disruption will cause some very unpleasant side effects.
Another thing to think about is who is making the anti-global warming statements....is it coming from the fossil fuel industry (especially King Coal?) so that people don't think about the massive environmental damage done blowing off the top of mountains in WV, destroying everything in its path? There is enough coal to power the country for many decades, but is it worth the environmental degradation? When you turn on your lights tonight, think about a mountain top being blown off to find that coal and remember that mountains don't grow back.

airedaly I do not agree with your summations as earth has gone through so many climate variations even before man walked on the planet. I personally belive the Global Warming thing is all about money, as Comet has pointed out, all you have to do if "follow the money" and Mr Gore is making Tons of Green Cash from this scam.
If you really want to learn about Mr Gore's real intentions one has to look back to when he was VP and when Mr Gore was promoting his 'Reinventing Government' campaign. Which by the way was a another code phrase for how he could make more money.
The U.S.Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 1 near Bakersfield, Calif., a 47,000-acre oil field was targeted by Gore's program 'Reinventing Government' campaign" to eventually wind up owned by Occidental Petroleum, an Oil Company Al Gore was very highly invested in. This ripped the U.S. Government and its citizens off of 100's of billions $$$$ in lost federal revenue. In 1997, the Clinton administration auctioned off NPR-1, or Elk Hills, as the oil field is more commonly known due to its prevalence of Tule elk. Occidental Petroleum Corp. made the highest bid, at $3.65 billion.
So when I hear stuff from dreamworks or you airedaly I wonder if you are just subject to pop culture hype rather than true facts and science. Do your homework and I am sure you will find that Al Gore is just a scam artist and a very clever one at that! This thread as I see it was to help warn NH citizen tax payers about getting sucked into this type of scam.
