Funny - if you don't believe scientists, then who do you believe? Exxon? When your doctor tells you that you are dying, do you laugh and walk away?

Have you read the IPCC report? Guess not.

And yet so many of the "contributors" have refuted that report or claimed what they contributed was taken out of context.

Not all scientists are aboard the bandwagon. Far from it.

The vast majority of climate scientists agree with the IPCC report. The American Association for the Advancement of Science, the country's premier scientific body, says "The scientific evidence is clear; global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and is a growing threat to society."

Exactly. For every "expert" who believes in this there are just as many who realize that weather and climate is cyclical and changes happen. We have gone through periods of time when we are very warm and when we are very cold. There is plenty of research and evidence out there against Al Gore and his cronies. Again, this is the new hollywood fad that they all have to jump on the bandwagon for. If they really cared about the environment, they would not be flying private jets with 3.00+ gallon gas, they would not be living in megamansions wasting food, water and earth and they would be against illegal aliens who have destroyed the border with garbage and have resorted to eating extinct birds and other animals. But the truth is, they don't care at all about the environment. This is the latest liberal "feelgood" fad.

Nicole - you are wrong. Your statements are not based on fact; they are personal beliefs. Please read the IPCC report before you start spouting nonsense.

The IPCC was written by scientists. Scientists don't live in megamansions or fly in private jets. They make less money than cops. I know because I'm married to one. they are honest and sincere. They care about the environment more than you'll ever know.

So the IPCC is gold and everything else is wrong? Sorry there are many scientists out there that have written against this. I am spouting nonsense? How do you know I did not read the IPCC. I have read plenty about this you do not know what I have read or not.

To say all scientist are honest and sincere is an extreme overgeneralization.

Many scientists who talk about global warming receive big grants, fellowships, etc. You cannot tell me that there is not some motivation there to have research be biased a certain way. There are dishonest people in all professions. Global Warming is now in the headlines so there will be $$ to be made. Why not jump on the bandwagon and make a few bucks. There are many peole doing this now.

You claim that my thoughts are on personal beliefs but now you reveal that your husband is a "scientist"-how is that not personalizing this discussion?

Yup, the IPCC is the gold standard. Until a peer-reviewed scientific study determines that the IPCC is wrong, the IPCC report is fact.

There is absolutely no proof that global warming is not caused by burning fossil fuels. Exxon and the CEI would like you to believe that global warming is not real; remember than Exxon's 2006 profits were more than $40 Billion. Now that's where your anger should be directed.....not at scientists who are working for a pittance.

Your right. Global warming is not happening, and the earth is flat.

I love the argument that the earth has been warming for 6000 years. For one you neglect to mention the mini ice ages that happened during those 6000 years. For another you have not mention that never in that 6000 years has the earth warmed as rapidly as it has in the last 50 or so years.

If for nothing else consider why even if this were fake how it could benefit this country. If people started moving to alternative (and hopefully renewable) fuels the country and its economy would not be effected by someone elses supply of oil. We could be mostly, or in the least partly, self sufficient with energy. Not to mention that nobody disputes the fact that pollution happens and this could solve pollution issues as well.

Movingback is on a distinguished road
Well,

I think 5 years ago one could reasonably disagree with "global climate change" as a fact.
Unfortunately, after all i have read in the past few years, as well as personal observations I think only a fool, or someone that doesn't have any exposure to national media and the internet could continue to reach that conclusion.

It seems the only unanswered question is how much is man made, and how much, just natural earth cycle.

I should preface the previous statement. I was born/raised in NH.
I am not some "liberal nut job' as some seem to suggest that anyone that cares about the future of the planet and our species must be. (I have always voted either Republican or libertarian in every election).

I also have not seen the Al Gore movie on climate change. I do however take exception to most that find it convent (no pun intended) paint everyone that cares about the environment as a blind follower of his message.
There even seems to be an acceptance of Global climate change as fact by the people most resistant to believing it. Our current president even has changed his tune, and now "admits" it is a real cause for concern, as well as a good lot of clergy and priests that are calling on their congregations to help stop its spread. As well as several Large oil companies.

To those that seem to still have a problem accepting Global climate change as fact (as laid out be 90% of scientists worldwide, give or take a few) What am i missing?
I have read 80-100 articles that confirm global climate as fact. Please rather than just flaming what i say because you don't agree with it (just makes you look ignorant). Provide the links to the articles you are reading that lead you to a different conclusion. And the links to the web sites of the scientists that still are disagreeing with most of their colleagues.

I have had, and still have an open mind. Convince me my conclusions are incorrect!!!

I'll just throw a few things out there that strike home to me:

Changing seasons
"Since the 1970's average winter temperatures have risen more than 4 degrees Fahrenheit in the Northeast region."
from Global Warming Impact Zones | U.S. New England

My father that has lived in NH about all his 68 years on the earth commented to me this past holiday on this very issue.

I also just finished rereading the IPCC report
IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
If you disagree or have read scientists that do, please provide links to factual articles that discredit it.

I was also fortunate to spend several days diving on the Great Barrier Reef in 1992. It saddens my to say it had already been negatively affectively by Ocean Acidification.
See:
Acidic Oceans Threat To Great Barrier Reef And Australia's Economy | Scientific Blogging

If you disagree or have read scientists that do, please provide links to factual articles that discredit it.

To Nicolem:
I applaud you for the measures you have already taken to help preserve our environment. We all would be much better off if others followed your lead.

As for the lack of action in China and India "If Global warming is an issue, how come Al Gore and his crew do not go after China and India? They have large populations and generate how much pollution. etc.-however once again go after the US." I can only speak to the China part of that.
I went to a lecture by a well known architect a few weeks ago (Bill McDonough) He had been personally called to china by Hu Jintao to work on creating a completely new city there that would be as environmentally friendly as possible (that plans he showed us were amazing). He also mentioned that Hu Jintao made a personal apology to his people for the way his government has handled pollution in the past, and is now aggressively taking measures to help reduce its impact in the future.

Bill McDonough has a book called "Cradle to Cradle" and there is a film called 'The Next Industrial Revolution' featuring McDonough, which is available thru most libraries. I recommend both. He is a very smart man with ideas for a sustainable future. So glad you mentioned him.
