Default NH Debate

Sigh. So why did they pitch different topics to the republicans and dems? Would have been good to see what the dems thought about illegal immigration, and push the republicans more on the economy and globalization.

And how many times did Rudy say "Reagan"? Why doesn't he just wear a Ronnie mask and wig and have done with it.

It is sad the republicans don't appear to want to do diddly about health care costs. They wax on about how we have the finest system in the world, it just costs twice as much as everybody else's. Duh! If you pay more, it SHOULD be better - but that doesn't make it accessible.

It's not that much more expensive. However, maybe they believe that nationalizing 1/6 of our economy isn't exactly in our best interests.

Having traveled abroad (including Canada and Great Britian) I've seen what socialized medicine is capable of, and it's pretty frightening.

That being said, yes, I'm wondering why both parties weren't asked similar questions, but until you get party nominees together onstage after the respective conventions, you're not going to see that.

You are right, it isn't. But you sort of infer that the dems want that...

Which candidate wants to nationalize health care? Not a one of them says that the health care system should be owned and run by the government. Basically, the dems want to mandate that everyone have insurance and subsidized for some by rolled-back tax breaks and war money and the republicans want the same thing through deregulation, tax breaks and free-market economics.

I dunno. I don't see "take over the hospitals and institute a National Health Service" a la Britain.

I am encouraged that all candidates on both sides think reform is necessary. It's only taken them 20 years to catch up. So, what maybe only another 20 before they actually DO it.

But that's what she wanted in 1993, and don't think she'd wouldn't try something similar this time around. A leopard (or snake) can't change its spots.

You had the right idea--let the market take care of itself and stop government subsidation of healthcare (and education). COMPETITION is the only way to get costs and quality to improve.

Of course it's the finest system for them, if officeholders get tax paid health care, but if everyone else gets it, it's "socialized medicine". Half of all bankruptcies in this nation are caused by medical bills, and we are at the mercy of health providers.

Rudy actually said we have the best health care in the world.
